Staff Mechanical Engineer - Structural Engineering Lead

As a Structural Analysis Lead on GS, you will: Supervise a team of mechanical engineers by providing oversight, technical mentoring, and guidance Perform detailed structural design and analysis on spacecraft components and the entire spacecraft system Provide technical memos and recommendations to support peer and customer reviews Present design and analysis data to the spacecraft design/engineering team, customer technical representatives, and Program Office personnel at technical interchange meetings and formal design reviews Provide review, interpretation, flow‑down, and implementation of program requirements Provide test support for component‑level and system‑level structural tests Basic Qualifications Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering (or related technical field) or equivalent experience/combined education Expertise with structural analysis methods and processes (e.g., load paths, mechanical joints, stress/strain, fatigue/fracture, buckling, classical hand calculations) Expertise with finite element numerical solution tools (e.g., NX & NX Nastran, or equivalent) Active Top Secret or SCI Security Clearance Desired Skills 10+ years of relevant professional experience in structural analysis of space structures Experience leading structural analysis efforts in support of conceptual, preliminary, and detailed design activities Experience with engineering level computer programming (e.g., Matlab) Experience with test engineering, instrumentation, data collection, and/or test reports Ability and desire to assume ownership of tasks and quickly and efficiently drive to closure Willingness to mentor and develop junior engineers Excellent written and verbal technical communication skills Security Clearance Statement This position requires a government security clearance; you must be a U.S. Citizen for consideration.
