1st Class Aluminum Shipfitter

POSITION OVERVIEW

We are seeking an experienced Aluminum Shipfitter with a minimum of 5 years of marine experience or 4 years of continuous company experience preferred. This role is responsible for laying out, fabricating, and fitting aluminum structural components within the hull of vessels in preparation for welding.

REQUIREMENTS

• Minimum of 5 years of marine experience or 4 years of continuous company experience (preferred)

• Proficient in shaping and cutting materials using power tools, including skill saws, jig saws, Metabo grinders, and similar equipment

• Ability to work in confined and enclosed spaces

• Ability to climb and work at elevations greater than 5 feet

• Ability to wear and work with a respirator when required

• Must be able to meet all physical demands of the position

SKILLS

• Ability to read and interpret blueprints, sketches, and templates

• Skilled in accessing and working through manholes and internally confined spaces

• Accurate in layout, measuring, cutting, fitting, and alignment of materials

• Strong attention to detail and commitment to safety and quality standards

RESPONSIBILITIES

• Determine the placement of structural components using blueprints, drawings, and templates

• Lay out and position parts on aluminum structures in accordance with specifications

• Locate and mark reference lines, including center, buttock, and frame lines

• Position and align components within the vessel hull

• Mark drilling locations and install temporary fasteners to secure components for welding or riveting

• Install packing, gaskets, liners, and structural members

• Tack weld clips, brackets, and fittings prior to permanent welding

• Bend, flange, cut, and shape plates, beams, and other aluminum structural components

• Provide guidance and direction to subordinate shipfitters and tack welders as required
