ELA Teacher – Hastings Middle School Hastings Area School System Location: Hastings Middle School – Hastings, Michigan Position: Middle School English Language Arts Teacher Status: Full-Time Start Date: 2026–2027 School Year Position Summary Hastings Area School System is seeking an enthusiastic, student-centered English Language Arts Teacher to join the team at Hastings Middle School. The successful candidate will provide engaging, standards-aligned instruction that develops students' reading, writing, speaking, listening, vocabulary, and critical-thinking skills. We are looking for a teacher who builds strong relationships with students, maintains high expectations, collaborates effectively with colleagues, and is committed to helping every student grow academically and personally. Essential Responsibilities Plan and deliver high-quality ELA instruction aligned with Michigan standards. Provide instruction in reading, writing, language, vocabulary, speaking, and critical thinking. Utilize student data to identify instructional needs and adjust instruction accordingly. Implement research-based literacy practices and strategies. Create a positive, inclusive, and supportive classroom environment. Establish clear expectations for student learning, behavior, and engagement. Differentiate instruction to meet the needs of diverse learners. Collaborate with grade-level and content-area colleagues to support student achievement. Participate in the school's Multi-Tiered System of Supports (MTSS) process as appropriate. Communicate effectively with students, parents/guardians, and colleagues. Maintain accurate student records and complete required assessments and documentation. Participate in professional development and contribute to a collaborative school culture. Perform other duties as assigned by the building principal or superintendent. Qualifications Valid Michigan teaching certificate with appropriate ELA endorsement for the middle school level. Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university. Strong knowledge of literacy instruction and adolescent learners. Excellent communication, organization, and classroom-management skills. Ability to establish positive relationships with middle school students. Commitment to collaboration, continuous improvement, and student success. Preferred Qualifications: Experience teaching English Language Arts at the middle school level. Experience with standards-based instruction and data-informed practices. Knowledge of structured literacy and the Science of Reading. Experience working within an MTSS framework. Why Hastings Area School System?
