Location : Phoenix, AZ

Compensation Range:

We have the ability to hire this position as a Design Engineer Level I, II, or III.

The compensation will range from $70,000 - $108,000 depending on which level relevant experience and qualifications align with.

Position Summary

Western Architectural Openings (WAO), based in Phoenix, AZ, is a leading manufacturer of luxury fenestration products in the United States. WAO is part of Miter Brands, creating additional opportunities for growth across the United States.

As a Design Engineer III, you will develop innovative solutions to support new products or revisions to existing products.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

• Work safely by following company policy and using appropriate PPE requirements where necessary

• Develop innovative and manufacturing friendly design solutions to support new and existing products

• Generate 2D and 3D CAD models to align with company drafting standards

• Design and create prototypes to demonstrate and verify fit, form, and function

• Lead design reviews to ensure cross functional collaboration and success

• Create and execute test plans to validate design concepts

• Document and peer review test results using test report templates

• Develop and/or modify bill of materials per design intent and certification testing

• Create product specifications and instructions to align with customer requirements & supplier’s capabilities

• Communicate and coordinate with cross functional partners (Product managers, supply chain, suppliers, process development, quality, sales, marketing, finance, & IT) to implement product design solutions

• Lead & manage engineering projects and timelines through project planning and timely execution of tasks

• Lead the technical components of multiple projects while communicating project scope and status updates to leadership through written communication, presentations, and the new product development methodology

• Manage multiple projects concurrently while adhering to budget, schedule, and scope restraints

• Take projects from concept, through prototyping, testing, certification, and production readiness

· Strong time management, organizational skills, and ability to set priorities for multiple tasks

· Strong communication skills in both written and verbal

· Self-starter and ability to work independently

Qualifications

Qualifications below are aligned with a Design Engineer Level III. Less experience will be required for Design Engineer levels I and II.

• Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited course of study in engineering (or other four-year technical discipline) and/or relevant 2-year Associates degree in combination with 10 years of experience

• 4+ years’ experience in Design Engineering

• Fluent in Microsoft Office products (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, etc.)

· Willingness to travel up to 5% (domestic air travel) depending on the needs of the business

Job Specific Requirements

• Practical knowledge of process improvement & development tools: 8D, Six Sigma, DMAIC, Stage Gate, etc.

• Experience with predicting potential failure modes (design FMEA, Fishbone, 5-Whys, etc.)

• Proficient using 2D and 3D computer aided drafting/design software, SolidWorks 3D experience preferred

• Finite Element Analysis FEA experience preferred

• Experience using machine tools preferred (mill, lathe, etc.)
