Field Service Engineer II - Hartford, CT

Symmetrio is partnering with a growing medical technology service organization to identify a Field Service Engineer II responsible for supporting, maintaining, troubleshooting, and repairing critical medical equipment. The Field Service Engineer II will perform on-site and in-house service, repair, maintenance, installation, and technical support for complex medical equipment and related systems. This individual will troubleshoot electronic, electromechanical, mechanical, software, PC, networking, and imaging-related issues while serving as a trusted technical resource for assigned customer accounts.

A key focus of this position is minimizing equipment downtime by quickly identifying technical problems, determining the appropriate resolution, and restoring equipment to manufacturer specifications. This role is well suited for a technically strong engineer who enjoys hands-on troubleshooting, working independently in the field, interacting directly with customers, and solving complex equipment problems.

Key Responsibilities

• Perform on-site and in-house service, repair, maintenance, and installation of complex medical equipment and related technologies.
• Troubleshoot electronic, electromechanical, mechanical, hardware, software, PC, networking, and wireless networking issues.
• Serve as a primary technical and service contact for assigned customer accounts and develop trusted customer relationships.
• Diagnose equipment and system failures and determine effective, cost-conscious repair strategies that minimize customer downtime.
• Provide technical support to customers regarding equipment operation, maintenance, performance, and technical issues.
• Provide phone and remote technical assistance to customers and other Field Service Engineers as needed.
• Troubleshoot moderately complex mechanical problems, including vacuum-related issues, software problems, networking issues, and imaging system defects.
• Perform equipment testing, verification, checkout, and calibration using appropriate electronic testing and diagnostic equipment.
• Manage and maintain spare-parts inventories for assigned customers and replenish customer spare-parts kits as necessary.
• Ensure serviced equipment operates according to manufacturer specifications, technical requirements, and applicable safety guidelines.
• Maintain detailed records of service visits, technical problems, troubleshooting activities, corrective actions, and parts utilized.
• Maintain current technical documentation related to the operating characteristics, design, and performance of assigned equipment.
• Prepare reports and documentation to support analysis of equipment failures, recurring technical issues, and serviceability trends.
• Maintain a high level of technical knowledge and safety awareness while performing field service activities.
• Accurately document customer and service activity through Salesforce, email, expense reports, and other company systems.
• Complete required technical and professional training as part of onboarding and ongoing development.
• Travel to customer locations as required and provide support during standard and non-standard working hours based on customer needs.

Requirements

• Significant professional experience working with electronic and electromechanical systems.
• Experience using testing and diagnostic equipment for verification, checkout, and calibration of electronic equipment.
• Strong technical knowledge of computers and PC-based systems.
• Demonstrated ability to troubleshoot electronic, mechanical, hardware, software, and system-related failures.
• Ability to independently diagnose and resolve moderately complex mechanical problems.
• Ability to identify and repair routine software and network issues.
• Strong computer troubleshooting and debugging skills.
• Ability to identify and resolve basic imaging system defects.
• Strong customer-service orientation with excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills in English.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, email, and other standard business applications.
• Ability to complete required technical training and maintain proficiency with assigned equipment.
• Ability to lift up to 75 pounds and stand for extended periods.
• Manual dexterity and ability to manipulate small components and objects.
• Ability and willingness to travel domestically and internationally, including for extended periods when required.
• Flexibility to work standard and non-standard hours based on customer and service requirements.

Preferred Experience

• Previous field service experience within medical devices, medical equipment, healthcare technology, imaging, or another complex technical equipment environment.
• Experience troubleshooting and repairing complex electronic and electromechanical equipment.
• Experience working with medical imaging systems or related healthcare equipment.
• Experience diagnosing software, PC, and network connectivity issues associated with technical equipment.
• Experience with equipment testing, verification, calibration, and preventative maintenance.
• Experience working directly with hospitals, healthcare facilities, or other clinical customers.
• Experience managing assigned customer accounts or serving as the primary technical contact for customers.
• Experience with Salesforce or a comparable CRM/ERP platform.
