Research Intern (Downstream Processing) - Marlborough, MA

Sartorius seeks a PhD-level research intern to support downstream processing development for extracellular vesicles and viral vectors. The role involves hands-on optimization of purification workflows using tangential flow filtration and chromatography, with direct contributions to nanoparticle process development at the Marlborough, MA site.
Responsibilities
- Execute purification protocols for EVs and viral vectors using TFF and chromatography systems
- Assist in designing and optimizing downstream steps to improve yield, purity, and scalability
- Operate and maintain TFF and chromatography equipment including setup and troubleshooting
- Prepare samples, quantify particles using orthogonal methods, and maintain detailed lab documentation
- Support analytical assays and collaborate with upstream, analytical, and formulation teams
Requirements
- PhD candidate in Bioengineering or closely related discipline
- Hands-on experience with TFF systems at lab or pilot scale
- Practical knowledge of chromatography techniques (SEC, IEX, affinity)
- Familiarity with nanoparticle systems such as EVs or viral vectors
- Experience with analytical tools (NTA, BCA, qPCR, HPLC, SEC-MALS)
- Strong documentation and organizational skills with SOP experience
Compensation: up to $30/hr
