Sr Counsel Patent Medicinal/ Pharmaceutical Chemistry - Cambridge, MA

Senior Counsel – Patent Medicinal/Pharmaceutical Chemistry Location: Cambridge, Massachusetts; Remote available or onsite at Thousand Oaks, CA; Cambridge, MA; or South San Francisco, CA. Responsibilities Work with Amgen scientists to identify patentable subject matter. Draft, file and prosecute patent applications worldwide. Conduct prior‑art searches. Analyze patents and prepare freedom‑to‑operate opinions. Conduct due diligence to support licensing activities. Negotiate and draft research agreements. Provide legal advice and counsel to R&D and business partners on a variety of IP matters. Assist with litigation‑related matters and challenge/defend patents in PTAB, opposition, and other forums. Basic Qualifications J.D. or LL.M. from an accredited law school, with admission to practice law in a U.S. jurisdiction. Four or more years of experience practicing intellectual property law. Registered to practice before the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office. Preferred Qualifications Ten or more years of experience practicing patent or intellectual property law. Experience in all aspects of U.S. and foreign IP law related to biotechnology at a law firm or biotechnology/pharmaceutical corporation. Advanced degree such as a master’s or Ph.D. in organic or medicinal chemistry. Excellent analytical, legal drafting and oral/written communication skills. Strong management and leadership skills, client service focus, and ability to work independently and in teams. Ability to work efficiently, prioritize workflow, meet demanding deadlines, and manage multi‑dimensional projects in a fast‑paced environment. Experience in U.S. and/or foreign adversarial proceedings (patent litigation, IPR, PGQ, opposition). Compensation & Benefits Base salary: $75,000 – $100,000. Expected annual salary range: $250,321.60 – $338,670.40 USD (actual salary depends on experience and qualifications).
