Job Summary
Marketing Communications Management
The John and Marcia Price College of Engineering is home to seven dynamic departments advancing research, innovation, and education in engineering and computer science. We are seeking a strategic marketing and communications leader with strong writing, design, and project management skills to effectively promote the College’s programs, research, events, and achievements. Direct and manage the development of integrated marketing and communications strategies that support College-wide and department-specific goals, reputation, recruitment, engagement, advancement, campaigns, and lead-generation objectives. Partner with the dean’s office, College and department leadership, faculty, staff, development, academic affairs, and University public relations and marketing teams to create accessible content and coordinated communications programs that engage target audiences. Oversee marketing collateral and ensure consistent application of University and College messaging and brand standards. Lead media relations and the development of press releases, story pitches, interview materials, marketing copy, reports, advertisements, and related content.
This position reports to the Dean of the John and Marcia Price College of Engineering and maintains a coordinated relationship with the University Marketing and Communications to support institutional alignment, coordination, and brand consistency. Serves as a first-level manager responsible for overseeing the work of individual contributors, including hiring, firing, performance appraisals, and pay reviews. Responsibilities
Responsibilities:
Leads the development, implementation, and evaluation of integrated marketing and communications strategies that advance College-wide and department-specific priorities, reputation, recruitment, engagement, advancement, and lead-generation objectives.
Directs and contributes to the research, writing, editing, design, production, and distribution of print and digital content for the College and its departments, including publications, websites, social media, email, marketing materials, reports, photographs, videos, advertisements, news releases, and other communications.
Develops and maintains relationships with members of the media and oversees media relations activities, including responding to inquiries and preparing news releases, story pitches, interview materials, photographs, videos, and related materials.
Partners with college and department leadership, faculty, staff, development, academic affairs, and University public relations and marketing teams to identify communications needs, establish priorities, develop coordinated messaging, and execute programs and campaigns.
Manages the assigned marketing and communications budget and exercises delegated authority for external agencies, retainers, photography and video services, advertising expenditures, and other vendors in accordance with University procurement, contracting, and fiscal policies.
Ensures that college- and department-level communications and marketing materials are compelling, accurate, timely, accessible, audience-appropriate, and consistent with university and college messaging and brand standards.
Identifies, researches, and develops stories that promote college and department programs, research, faculty, students, alumni, partnerships, events, accomplishments, strategic initiatives, and community impact to internal and external audiences.
Establishes performance measures; monitors communication channels, campaign performance, audience engagement, and media coverage; and adjusts college- and department-level strategies and tactics based on results and organizational priorities. Tracks and targets year-over-year growth in earned media placements featuring College research and engagement with donor-facing research communications.
Directs communications for significant public events, announcements, initiatives, and special projects for the college and its departments, including establishing project scope, priorities, timelines, workflows, quality standards, deliverables, and resource requirements and coordinating staff, campus partners, vendors, and other contributors.
Advises college and department leaders on communications strategy, brand positioning, emerging issues, and reputational considerations and recommends appropriate communications strategies and responses.
Supervises assigned staff, including hiring, termination, work assignments, coaching, performance appraisals, pay reviews, professional development, and related personnel responsibilities.
Manages competing college-wide and department-specific priorities while ensuring the quality, consistency, and timely completion of team deliverables.
Performs other related duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
EQUIVALENCY STATEMENT : 1 year of higher education can be substituted for 1 year of directly related work experience (Example: bachelor’s degree = 4 years of directly related work experience).
Department may hire employee at one of the following job levels:
Manager, Marketing Communications Management: Requires a bachelor’s (or equivalency) + 6 years or a master’s (or equivalency) + 4 years of directly related work experience.
Senior Manager, Marketing Communications Management: Requires a bachelor’s (or equivalency) + 8 years or a master’s (or equivalency) + 6 years of directly related work experience.
Preferences
Expertise with local media markets and knowledge of statewide, regional, and national media preferred.
Experience in science, technology, engineering, or higher education research communications, including translating complex faculty research for lay, media, and donor audiences, is strongly preferred.
