Associate Veterinarian

Position Overview Veterinarian – Vetco Total Care Full Service Veterinary Hospital Responsibilities Provide excellent patient care by performing physical examinations, diagnosing and treating diseases, and providing preventive care based on patient signalment, lifestyle, and environment. Utilize a problem‑based approach that includes developing a complete problem list for each patient, differential diagnoses, diagnostic plan, and appropriate treatments. Document all patient observations, exams, diagnostics, treatments, medications, client interactions, and diagnoses in the medical record accurately and concisely. Perform routine and complex surgical procedures including spays/neuters, abdominal exploratory, mass removals, and other surgeries. Perform routine and complex dental procedures including full dental examinations, radiograph evaluation, extractions, and oral surgical procedures. Develop treatment plans for patients undergoing day hospitalization based on complete problem‑based assessment. Transition patients to overnight care as needed and communicate effectively with referral hospitals to ensure continuity of patient care. Participate in rounds as incoming or exiting doctor at shift start and end, disseminate knowledge to staff to improve patient and client care. Perform additional duties as assigned. Supervision & Team Leadership The Veterinarian takes direct supervision from the Hospital Medical Leader or Area Medical Director and works collaboratively with the team. The role acts as a de‑facto leader within the hospital, upholding Petco Veterinary SOPs and providing guidance to staff. Planning and Problem Solving Exhibit strong problem‑solving skills for expeditious diagnosis of patient problems, maintaining high quality standard of care, employee retention, patient well‑being and customer satisfaction. Qualifications & Experience Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM) degree from an AVMA‑accredited veterinary school. Active licensure as a veterinarian without contingencies in the state where the hospital is located, or ability to obtain by start date. Current DEA license; Controlled Substance license as applicable. USDA CategoryI accreditation or completion within two months of hire. Comfortability performing anesthesia and routine surgeries including canine and feline spays, neuters, mass removals, and dentistry. Excellent written and verbal communication skills; compassionate, professional demeanor, and team‑player attitude. Telephone and computer skills; ability to learn new techniques and treatments, offer ideas, and accept change. Work Environment Work performed in the Vetco Total Care full‑service hospital. Duties involve bending, kneeling, lifting up to 30lb, standing for long periods, and direct contact with clients and pets.
