Senior Software EngineerKBR is seeking a Senior Software Engineer to design, develop, and maintain the software baseline of multiple contracts. The successful candidate will work across the full domain of our unit’s portfolio - from human-machine interfaces, to hardware command and status, to SATCOM mission control. This role is well suited to an engineer who enjoys solving difficult problems within the SATCOM domain, responsive user interfaces, distributed systems, disconnected operations, and mission-critical software.**Why Join Us?*** **Innovative Projects:** KBR’s work is at the forefront of engineering, logistics, operations, science, program management, mission IT and cybersecurity solutions.* **Collaborative Environment**: Be part of a dynamic team that thrives on collaboration and innovation, fostering a supportive and intellectually stimulating workplace.* **Impactful Work:** Your contributions will be pivotal in designing and optimizing defense systems that ensure national security and shape the future of space defense.**Responsibilities*** Design and implement software package improvements on a fast paced research and development project focused on local SATCOM RF awareness.* Triage defects, and design improvements for an operational SATCOM ground system utilized around the world.* Develop responsive, accessible user interfaces using React, TypeScript, JavaScript.* Extend a system’s open architecture framework to enable cross-system compatibility and extensibility.* Develop backend APIs and supporting services using GoLang, Java, C#, Python.* Integrate real-time operational data from multiple sources, including tracking, sensor, communications, environmental, and situational awareness systems.* Design and optimize client-side and server-side data flows for real-time, historical, and time-windowed geospatial data.* Work with MongoDB, and SQLite databases.* Work with external services that require data conversion and packaging prior to ingest.* Build software that functions reliably in disconnected, degraded, and austere environments.* Improve system performance, observability, reliability, security, and maintainability.* Participate in architecture discussions, technical design reviews, code reviews, and engineering planning.* Create automated tests and maintain type-checking, linting, build, and release quality gates.* Collaborate with product owners, domain experts, operators, and other engineers to translate operational needs into usable software.**Required Qualifications*** Ability to hold a TS/SCI clearance.* Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related technical discipline, or equivalent professional experience.* Ten or more years of professional software engineering experience.* Strong professional experience with TypeScript and JavaScript.* Strong experience building production React applications.* Experience designing and implementing backend services and APIs with GoLang, or similar language.* Experience with relational or document-oriented databases, preferably MongoDB, SQLite, or similar* Demonstrated ability to work across frontend, backend, data, and deployment concerns.* Experience writing maintainable, tested, production-quality code.* Strong understanding of software architecture, API design, error handling, logging, and operational diagnostics.* Ability to troubleshoot complex problems across multiple services and runtime environments.* Excellent written and verbal communication skills.* Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively with a multidisciplinary engineering team.**Preferred Qualifications*** Experience building desktop applications with C# or equivalent.* Experience with offline-first or disconnected operations.* Experience with real-time streaming protocols.* Experience with military, aviation, emergency management, public safety, or other operational data systems.* Experience with Docker, Docker Compose, Kubernetes, CI/CD, and production release automation.* Experience with performance optimization for high-volume visualizations and streaming data.* Experience working in environments requiring formal security, quality, or configuration-management processes.* Experience mentoring engineers and leading technical work from design through delivery.**Basic Compensation:****$200,000 - $275,000** *The offered rate will be based on the selected candidate’s knowledge, skills, abilities and/or experience and in consideration of internal parity.***Additional Compensation:**KBR may offer bonuses, commissions, or other forms of compensation to certain job titles or levels, per internal policy or contractual designation.
