Registered Rn Trauma Step-Down UnitThe Registered RN is a professional caregiver, who as a member of a multidisciplinary healthcare team, assumes responsibility and accountability for a group of patients for a designated time frame. They supervise and provide care to these patients utilizing the nursing process, including the therapeutic use of self.Key ResponsibilitiesFollows established policies and procedures.Communicates openly with internal customers and supervisors.Provides excellent customer service, interfacing well with all levels of staff, management, and physicians.Applies Cooper's core values.Performs other duties as required.The Trauma Step-Down Unit (TSDU) is a 9-bed intermediate critical care unit specializing in the care of traumatically injured patients. Patients with serious but less critical injuries can be admitted to the TSDU directly from the ED or the Ross Trauma Admitting Area. Patients usually cared for in this area include those with traumatic brain injuries, spinal cord injuries, rib fractures and lung injuries, as well as diverse orthopedic injuries requiring frequent monitoring and care. Patients may also be transferred to the TSDU from the Trauma/Surgical ICU when their clinical condition has improved but close monitoring or ventilator support is still required. The unit is staffed with registered nurses, critical care technicians, trauma surgery nurse practitioners and resident physicians. Staff also work closely with respiratory therapy and specialized surgical groups such as orthopedics and neurosurgery.
