Job Title: Registered Nurse Profession: Nursing Specialty: Medical Surgical Duration: 13 Weeks Shift: 12-Hour Nights, Every Other Weekend Hours per Shift: 12 Hours Experience: Minimum 2 Years License: Required Certifications: BLS Certification Must-Have: Surgical experience, post-operative care, early ambulation experience Description: This position is for a registered nurse in a medical surgical unit. The unit has 30 beds and a nurse-to-patient ratio of 1:4-5 during days and 1:5-6 during nights. Common diagnoses and types of patients include total joint replacement, spinal surgery, and various abdominal procedures. Experience with hemodynamic monitoring and drains, such as JP drains and colostomies, is valued. RNs are not required to titrate drips but may encounter occasional heparin drips and PCA pumps. A charge nurse is present on each shift, and the charge nurse may occasionally take a low acuity assignment. There are patient care technicians on the unit with a ratio of 1:12. Respiratory therapy equipment includes nasal cannulas and other basic tools, while RNs do not read telemetry strips. Shifts follow a 0700-1930 and 1900-0730 schedule, with scheduling managed by the unit manager. Weekend and holiday work will be required as needed. Floating to medical and telemetry units is also expected, with assistance for interpreting telemetry strips. Bedside shift reporting is an established expectation on the unit. Candidates must meet a radius rule and should provide any requested time off upfront, as additional time off will not be approved. The work culture is described as close-knit and supportive.
