Data Center Lead Operating Engineer The Data Center Lead Operating Engineer is responsible for delivering best practice systems and problem resolution on all data center electrical and mechanical infrastructure (UPS, MV electrical systems, generators, cooling systems, etc.). Responsibilities Runs the shift and ensures all members complete mandatory client and JLL trainings on time. Reviews work tickets and assignments for the shift, delegates, and ensures completion. Acts as first point of contact during emergencies or active onsite incidents, gathering and communicating pertinent information. Maintains, monitors, and performs preventive maintenance for building systems to maintain 100% up‑time, including fire/life safety, HVAC, chillers, CRAH, plumbing, controls, and emergency backup systems such as lighting, UPS, ATS, STS, PDU, generators, switchgear, power distribution, transformers. Monitors and adjusts refrigeration, chilled water, air conditioning equipment; boilers, ventilating and hot water systems; pumps, valves, piping, filters; and other mechanical and electrical equipment. Records readings, makes adjustments as needed to ensure proper operation of equipment. Analyzes operation of systems, determines cause of problems or malfunctions, and takes corrective action. Complies with departmental policies for safe storage, usage, and disposal of hazardous materials. Maintains a clean and safe workplace. Understands and manages incidents and events that risk critical systems. Manages work orders through CMMS, vendor management, and customer tickets. Follows emergency escalation procedures and performs additional duties as required. Physical Work Abilities & Requirements Frequent walking, climbing, bending, kneeling, lifting, stooping, and overhead work. Walk large, campus‑like settings; lift a minimum of 50 lbs.; climb stairs and rooftops; use ladders up to 30 ft.; lift a ladder with a 300‑lb weight limit. Work different schedules, holidays, and respond to site emergencies. Desired Experience & Technical Skills 2+ years experience in a data center or critical facility. Experience with building systems including UPS, emergency generators, and switchgear. Demonstrated verbal and written communication skills. Working knowledge of MS Office (Word, Excel, Outlook), Google Suite, and CMMS. Preferred: Universal EPA 608 certification; NFPA70E training. Compensation Estimated annual salary: $111,092.00 – $111,092.80 USD (actual compensation may vary based on qualifications and market conditions).
