Job Title: House Manager / Family Assistant

Location: Mill Valley, CA 94941

Employment Type: Full-time, 40 hours per week

Schedule: Monday through Friday, 9:00 AM – 6:00 PM. Occasional evenings, weekends, or overnights as needed.

Compensation: $43-48/hour, based on experience. Mileage reimbursed for on-the-job errands.

Requirements

• Ability to maintain a smoke-free environment required

• Reliable transportation and a clean driving record required
• CPR and first aid certification preferred
• Bilingual Spanish required

• Ability to safely move throughout a multi-level home, supervise and actively engage with school-age children, and perform routine household tasks such as transporting items, with or without reasonable accommodation.

About Our Family

We are an active, outgoing family of four (soon to be five!) based in Mill Valley. Life with our kids is full of movement, laughter, outdoor adventures, activities, and creative play. Our children are spirited, affectionate, and fun-loving, and quality time together matters deeply to us. One parent works in a full-time, high-pressure role with occasional travel, and the other will be transitioning to full-time home care as we welcome our new baby. We are looking for more breathing room in the rhythm of our days: less scramble, more connection, and a calmer foundation for time together. We already have trusted vendors in place, including cleaners, landscapers, and other service providers. This role is about partnering with us long-term to coordinate those relationships, anticipate what needs attention, and keep daily operations moving with care and consistency. The right person will help create the structure that allows our family to be more present with one another, especially with our children.

You are comfortable overseeing daily tasks independently while maintaining a calm, organized presence. You can read the room, step in when necessary, and handle responsibilities with steady energy, always keeping each family member's needs in mind. You bring a grounded, personable presence and strong social awareness, knowing when to connect and when to keep the day moving. You communicate with clarity, confidence, and professionalism, offering concise updates and then moving seamlessly into execution.

You bring creativity and enthusiasm to time spent with children — whether suggesting an age-appropriate outing, keeping up with a high-energy eight-year-old, or making an afternoon feel intentional rather than improvised. You love kids for being kids and embrace the chaos, fun, and imagination that come from their worlds. You are experienced at integrating into a family rhythm without needing a lot of hand-holding — if anything, you come with tools and systems to create ease and efficiency. Both children are bilingual in Spanish, so Spanish fluency is required.

Key Responsibilities

Family Support

• Pick up children from school daily and transport them to afternoon activities
• Supervise and engage the two older children each afternoon
• Prepare backpacks, clothing, and snacks
• Run kid-related errands

Household Organization & Maintenance

• Create and maintain household organization systems
• Reset daily living areas and prepare the home for cleaners
• Make and reset beds daily; change sheets as part of the regular linen rotation
• Handle light tidying, including dishes, surfaces, and vacuuming high-traffic areas
• Manage seasonal swaps for clothing, décor, and bedding
• Prepare and coordinate donation drop-offs
• Prepare for occasional events, holidays, and guests
• Support packing and unpacking for travel
• Indoor plant care
• Change batteries, light bulbs, smoke detectors, and similar household items
• Roll out trash and recycling bins on Wednesday/Thursday

Inventory & Errands

• Restock pantry, fridge, and household supplies
• Manage running household supply lists
• Manage household orders and subscriptions, including Amazon and Whole Foods
• Handle returns, dry cleaning, and gift shopping
• Handle mail and packages
• Break down boxes

Meal Support

• Plan and execute a weekly meal plan for 1–2 meals per week, with leftovers for lunch
• Wash and chop produce, marinate proteins, and set up ingredients for cooking
• Prepare grab-and-go snacks for kids and adults
• Handle all grocery shopping and pantry restocking, including regular fridge cleanout
• Keep meals aligned with a healthy, pescatarian/vegetarian household

Laundry & Linens

• Wash, fold, organize, and put away all family laundry
• Handle ironing, steaming, and special garment care
• Rotate linens
• Maintain tidy and well-stocked laundry areas

Vehicle Upkeep

• Occasionally take the family vehicle to the car wash
• Tidy and organize the vehicle as needed

Vendor & Property Oversight

• Serve as the point of contact for cleaners, landscapers, contractors, and tradespeople
• Research and coordinate repairs and quotes
• Manage Skylight/Calendar updates, including household schedules

Special Projects

• Refresh the garage, mudroom, and entry areas
• Complete organization projects for toys, gear, and similar items
