Summary: The Quality Manager is responsible for providing strategic and operational leadership for the Quality function and Quality Management System (QMS) across the assigned Pennsylvania manufacturing facilities. This role is accountable for developing, implementing, and sustaining quality programs that support product integrity, process control, regulatory compliance, customer satisfaction, and continuous improvement. The Quality Manager will lead initiatives that strengthen manufacturing quality, reduce variation, prevent defects, improve first-pass yield, and lower the Cost of Poor Quality (COPQ). This position partners closely with Operations, Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, Supply Chain, Customer Service, Corporate Quality, and other cross-functional stakeholders to identify risks, resolve quality issues, improve business processes, and ensure products consistently meet or exceed customer, regulatory, and company requirements. The Quality Manager also provides leadership, coaching, and direction to Quality personnel while serving as a key business partner focused on operational excellence, quality performance, and long-term organizational growth.
Key Responsibilities
Quality Execution within Manufacturing
- Provide daily and strategic quality leadership to Production, Manufacturing Engineering, and Quality teams to improve process capability, reduce variation, and ensure consistent product conformance.
- Develop and execute quality strategies that reduce defects, scrap, rework, warranty exposure, customer complaints, and overall Cost of Poor Quality (COPQ).
- Promote risk-based thinking and process discipline through the effective use of PFMEA, Control Plans, Process Flow Diagrams, capability studies, inspection plans, and process validation activities.
- Support the implementation of error-proofing, automation, standardized work, inspection methods, and other process improvements to prevent defects before they occur.
- Monitor production quality trends, internal nonconformances, scrap drivers, audit findings, and customer feedback to identify emerging risks and implement proactive corrective actions.
- Ensure timely, thorough, and effective completion of Corrective and Preventive Actions (CAPAs) with verified root cause, defined containment, sustainable countermeasures, and documented effectiveness checks.
Quality Management System Compliance
- Maintain, administer, and continually improve the Quality Management System in partnership with the Quality Systems team to ensure alignment with ISO 9001, customer-specific requirements, company policies, and applicable regulatory expectations.
- Ensure procedures, work instructions, inspection criteria, quality records, and related documentation are accurate, controlled, communicated, and consistently followed throughout the organization.
- Lead or support Management Review activities by preparing quality performance data, identifying systemic risks, tracking action items, and supporting organizational quality objectives.
- Drive audit readiness for customer, registrar, regulatory, and internal audits, including preparation, execution support, response development, corrective action follow-up, and effectiveness verification.
- Champion compliance awareness and quality system discipline across the site through training, communication, coaching, and cross-functional engagement.
Leadership & Team Development
- Lead, coach, mentor, and develop Quality Technicians, Inspectors, and other Quality personnel to strengthen technical capability, accountability, engagement, and performance.
- Establish clear departmental goals, priorities, performance expectations, and key metrics aligned with business objectives and site-level operational needs.
- Conduct performance evaluations, provide timely feedback, support employee development planning, and identify succession planning opportunities within the Quality organization.
- Allocate resources effectively to support production priorities, inspection activities, audit requirements, customer needs, and continuous improvement initiatives.
- Foster a culture of accountability, collaboration, respect, continuous improvement, customer focus, and proactive problem solving.
Customer & Supplier Quality Assurance
- Serve as the primary site quality representative for customer quality concerns, complaints, corrective action requests, audits, and quality-related communications.
- Partner with Quality Systems, Purchasing, Engineering, and Operations to improve supplier quality performance, support supplier issue resolution, and develop risk-based incoming inspection strategies.
- Support supplier corrective action activities by ensuring issues are clearly defined, root causes are validated, containment is effective, and long-term corrective actions are implemented.
- Support New Product Introduction through APQP activities, design for manufacturability reviews, quality planning, inspection planning, production readiness reviews, and launch performance monitoring.
Continuous Improvement
- Lead continuous improvement initiatives related to quality performance, First Pass Yield, customer satisfaction, new product introduction, process effectiveness, and operational efficiency.
- Facilitate cross-functional Root Cause Analysis using structured methodologies such as 8D, 5 Why, Fishbone, DMAIC, Pareto analysis, and other data-driven problem-solving tools.
- Utilize data analysis, statistical techniques, quality metrics, and trend reporting to identify opportunities for improvement and prioritize actions based on business impact.
- Support Kaizen events, operational excellence projects, standardization efforts, and lean manufacturing initiatives that improve safety, quality, delivery, cost, and productivity.
- Encourage innovation and the use of current technologies, automation, digital quality tools, and best practices to improve inspection effectiveness and process control.
- Serve as a leader within the Havis Operating Model with a focus on SQCDMM: Safety, Quality, Cost, Delivery, Manpower, and Machine.
Required Qualifications
