Job Summary Performs imaging/therapeutic services and associated patient care with support of the Radiology Department mission to provide diagnostic information for the subsequent treatment of patients at WVU Medicine. Performs the duties and responsibilities within the scope of a Radiology Technologist - Level I, as defined within the job description. Minimum Qualifications Must possess current Radiography license as required by state board where services will be provided. Specific state licenses: MD – Radiographer License through Maryland Board of Physicians; OH – Radiographer License through Ohio Department of Health; PA – No state licensure required; WV – Radiography License through West Virginia Medical Imaging and Radiation Therapy Technology Board. Registered by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) in Radiography. Certification in Basic Life Support within 30 days of hire. State criminal background check and Federal (if applicable), as required for regulated areas. Experience One (1) year experience as a Radiologic Technologist. Core Duties and Responsibilities Rotates in all Diagnostic areas for development of technical skills (Fluoro, Mobiles, Routine, Operating Room, Endoscopy, Orthopedics). Performs image procedures based on assessment of the patient status, service request, and imaging protocols, monitored by periodic image evaluations and supervision. Produces images of optimal quality by using imaging equipment and systems in the provision of image delivery and archiving. Select exposure factors based on patient size, condition, and pathology to achieve optimal image quality with minimal radiation exposure. Minimizes radiation exposure to self, patients, and other staff through shielding, collimation, inverse square law application, and minimizing repeat exposures. Maintains an expertise in anatomy, physiology, and pathology to optimize procedures and ensure patient care and safety. Assesses patient needs and provides imaging related comfort, hygiene, range of motion, and support. Prepares contrast agents, specific pharmaceuticals, and sterile trays per procedural guidelines and protocols. Educates patients regarding radiographic procedures and answers questions accordingly. Promotes team approach by positively interacting with technical, support, nursing, and medical staff. Engages in problem solving, crisis management, systems implementation, and performance improvements to promote efficient, high‑quality, and cost‑effective patient care. Displays imaging techniques, patient care, and guest relation behaviors in accordance with the ARRT Code of Ethics and relevant policies and regulations. Reports equipment failures immediately upon identification. Completes in‑services and competencies by required dates and applies knowledge gained. Positions patients accurately per established protocols. Participates in coordination of daily workflow. Provides minimal instruction to radiology students regarding patient positioning, technique selection, equipment manipulation, and accessory device use, providing supervision per program policies. Ensures completion of all vital components of the imaging process in their entirety. Physical Requirements Differentiate shades of gray and color on monitors or photographs. Stand and walk for prolonged periods. Lift, push, and pull up to 50 pounds. Carry items up to 20 pounds. Working Environment Exposure to minimal radiation within national standards, monitored by Radiation Safety and dosimeter use. Exposure to airborne particles and bodily fluids. Operation of imaging equipment with automated moving parts. Skills And Abilities Interact positively with patients, families, and health care team members. Prioritize and manage multiple situations simultaneously. Improvise with altered positioning techniques, equipment manipulation, and accessory devices when routine positioning is compromised. Radiology Technologist Clinical Ladder Level 1 No experience required. All Radiology Technologists with less than 12 months of experience enter at Level 1. Level 2 Meets requirements for previous level. One year of experience. Complete competency of Skill Set Tech 1, plus additional skill sets. Level 3 Meets requirements for previous levels. One continuing education pathway. Three years of experience. Compliance in 3 leadership/supervisory skills. Complete competency of Skill Set Tech 1 and 2, plus 3 additional skill sets. Level 4 Meets requirements for previous levels. One continuing education pathway.Five years of experience. Compliance in 5 leadership/supervisory skills. Complete competency of Skill Set Tech 1, 2, and 3 plus 3 additional skill sets.
