Registered Nurse Labor and Delivery

The Registered Nurse in Labor and Delivery provides specialized nursing care to women during labor, delivery, postpartum, and newborn care. This role involves managing patient assessments, administering medications, supporting vaginal and cesarean deliveries, and collaborating with the interdisciplinary team to ensure high-quality obstetric and neonatal care. The nurse must be skilled in using specialized equipment and handling complex clinical situations in a fast-paced environment, with a focus on patient safety and comfort. Responsibilities:

• Provide nursing care in Labor and Delivery, Postpartum, OB Triage, Antepartum, and Normal Newborn units.
• Perform vaginal and cesarean deliveries, including circulating in the operating room.
• Start adult IVs and administer blood and blood products.
• Manage drains, epidural pumps, PCA pumps, insulin, and magnesium sulfate administration.
• Utilize specialized equipment for high-risk antepartum, labor and delivery, and postpartum care.
• Collaborate with physicians, midwives, and the interdisciplinary team to develop and implement patient care plans.
• Provide patient education and emotional support during labor and postpartum periods.
• Maintain accurate and timely documentation of patient care and interventions.
• Float to other units as needed to support patient care demands.

• Active Registered Nurse license with compact state recognition.
• Minimum 2 years of experience in Labor and Delivery, Postpartum, Newborn care, or related OB nursing.
• Certifications: AWHONN Intermediate, Basic Life Support (BLS), Fetal Heart Monitoring (FHM), Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP).
• Proficiency in vaginal and cesarean deliveries, IV starts, and administration of blood products and medications.
• Strong clinical assessment, medication administration, and interdisciplinary collaboration skills.

• Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) certification.
• Experience circulating in the operating room during cesarean sections.
• Skills in managing high-risk antepartum and labor and delivery patients.

• Must float to other units as required.
• Staffing ratios range from 1:1 to 1:3 depending on patient acuity.
• Previous employees of Providence-affiliated facilities must have a minimum 3-month separation before qualifying for travel positions.
• Work environment includes Labor and Delivery, Postpartum, OB Triage, and Newborn care units.

• Shift assignments may vary; flexibility to work day, night, or rotating shifts as needed.
• Scheduling based on patient census and unit needs, with potential for on-call or float shifts.
