Lead Rotating Equipment Rebuild Specialist (Pumps)

Compensation: $35.00 – $45.00 per hour, plus a 5% shift differential

A Day in the Role

You start the day aligning priorities with the shop superintendent. With the plan set, you brief the shop floor, assign work by customer due dates, and verify travelers and requisitions are in order for each custom job. Before lunch, you’re hands-on—tearing down a BB4 multi-stage pump on the shop floor while coaching a mechanic through an inspection report and confirming measurements against standards.

In the afternoon, you join a production/sales meeting to report job status, risks, and wins. Back on the floor, you review QA/QC checkpoints, interpret blueprints for a complex reassembly, and provide technical guidance to a customer over the phone. As the shift winds down, you complete safety observations, ensure the shop is clean and safe, notify the superintendent which jobs are ready to ship, and make sure the building is secure for the evening. When needed, you capably step in to cover the superintendent’s responsibilities.

What You Will Lead

• Coordinate daily workflow with the shop superintendent and cascade plans to the floor team.
• Ensure travelers and requisitions are followed for every custom pump project.
• Assign and sequence tasks for mechanics in line with customer due dates.
• Perform hands-on shop and on-site disassembly, inspection, reporting, cleaning, and reassembly of pumps.
• Train, mentor, and oversee mechanics in teardown and assembly procedures.
• Partner with management to craft solution-based scopes and proposals that demonstrate value and support profitable growth.
• Deliver technical support to customers and internal teams.
• Safeguard adherence to QA/QC procedures and documentation.
• Report floor status during production/sales meetings.
• Read and interpret blueprints to guide repair and reassembly.
• Notify the shop superintendent when jobs are complete and ready to return to customers.
• Conduct daily safety observations and routine inspections.
• Maintain a clean, organized, and safe shop environment.
• Serve as acting shop superintendent during absences.

Qualifications

• At least 5 years of experience in the pump industry.
• Proven ability to independently execute pump service and maintenance, including accurate measurements, complete documentation, and use of applicable standards to ensure quality workmanship.
• Hands-on repair experience with at least two of the following: Multi-Stage BB4 and BB5, BB1, BB2, BB3 pumps.
• Field service experience is a plus.
• Background in steel or power industry environments.
• Familiarity with ANSI/Hydraulic Institute and/or API codes and their practical application.
• Strong interpersonal skills for daily interaction with customers and colleagues.
• Analytical troubleshooting capability to diagnose systemic issues.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Word and Outlook for service reports and internal communications; comfort navigating web-based technical literature and programs.
