Waterfront/Coastal Engineering Intern or Co-Op

Essential Responsibilities & Duties Supporting the design and analysis of coastal and waterfront structures. Participating in field surveys, inspections, and construction oversight – from pile driving to concrete placement and above‑ and below‑water inspections. Developing technical skills using AutoCAD, Revit, and Civil3D. Performing calculations, preparing spreadsheets, and contributing to design documentation. Shadowing engineers to learn about career paths post‑graduation. Assisting with permitting, project coordination, and client support as needed. Minimum Qualifications Currently enrolled in your 3rd or 4th year of a Civil, Structural, or Ocean Engineering (or related) B.S. program at an ABET‑accredited school; M.S. students welcome. A strong sense of curiosity, initiative, and attention to detail. Experience (or strong desire to learn) AutoCAD, Civil3D, or Revit. Excellent written and verbal communication skills. A valid U.S. driver’s license and willingness to travel for site work (including overnight trips). Comfortable working outdoors in various weather conditions. Preferred Qualifications Coursework in structural steel, reinforced concrete, or coastal modeling. Public speaking or leadership experience. Diving certification – especially if you’re interested in underwater inspections. Physical Requirements Activity Level: Occasional (0‑35% of day), Frequent (33‑66% of day), Continuous (67‑100% of day). Sitting: 4+ hours. Standing: 1‑2 hours. Walking: 1‑2 hours. Lifting (floor to waist level): 0‑25 lbs. Lifting (waist level and above): 0‑25 lbs. Carrying objects, pushing/pulling, twisting, bending, reaching forward, reaching overhead, squatting/kneeling/crawling, wrist position deviation, pinching/fine motor skills: No restrictions. Keyboard use/repetitive motion: 4+ hours. Taste or smell, talk or hear: No restrictions. Visual requirements: Near vision 20/40; Far vision 20/20; Accurate color discrimination and depth perception. Environmental exposures: Bloodborne pathogens, chemical, airborne communicable diseases, extreme temperatures, radiation, uneven surfaces or elevations, extreme noise levels, dust/particulate matter – all reasonably anticipated.
