Talascend is currently seeking an Electrical Engineer for a direct hire opportunity with our client in Mountain Pass, California .
Overview
The Electrical Engineer will support operations and capital projects as a subject matter expert for site electrical systems.
Responsibilities
- Perform examinations of work areas and monitor compliance with MSHA regulations and company policies.
- Ensure equipment and systems are designed to best industry safety standards.
- Work with site electricians and contractors to ensure company standards and specifications are being used and ensure industry standard best maintenance practices are followed.
- Work with stakeholders of projects and operations to ensure systems being purchased and installed are in compliance with site-adopted standards and specifications.
- Work with the Process Engineering, Process Controls, and Maintenance teams to diagnose electrical issues impacting the process and the power distribution system.
- Diagnose, isolate, and coordinate repair of motors, MCC, Switchgear, and supporting equipment (480V, 12kV) with the Maintenance team and suppliers including the replacement and adjustment of components, integral units, motors, controls, and other integral instruments as needed.
- Work with site maintenance team to optimize routine testing and preventative maintenance schedules and procedures for electrical equipment.
- Troubleshoot electrical failures, contribute to RCFAs and develop actions to prevent recurrence.
- Work with electricians in troubleshooting 12KV switchgears, relays and transformers.
- Ensure that the plant electrical protection system is operating as intended and critical infrastructure is adequately protected.
- Work to organize and update electrical documentation in the site document management system.
- Work with the Projects team to provide input and clarifications for capital projects including review of project specifications, P&IDs, Single-Line Diagrams, grounding drawings, electrical equipment datasheets, equipment location drawings, motor schematics, cable schedules, panel schedules, coordination studies, and lighting drawings as required to ensure consistency across our site.
- Participate in weekly project meetings with suppliers, participate in design reviews, acceptance testing, HAZOP meetings, respond to Requests for Information (RFI), approve deviation requests, start-up and commissioning support, and ensure the projects are following the site standards and adopted site standards.
- Bachelor's degree in electrical engineering or relevant technical degree is required.
- 3+ years industrial plant electrical maintenance and supervision experience.
- Strong knowledge of applicable codes and industry specifications.
- Strong understanding of electrical maintenance work procedures and a general knowledge of electrical systems repair, project execution, and construction/installation techniques.
- Experience with power distribution systems in an industrial environment.
- Experience with 12kV infrastructure.
- Strong knowledge of electrical and safety system design in a chemical operating facility.
- Experience with software for electrical design, analysis, and simulation of power systems.
- Experience with GE Relays, switchgears and Rockwell MCCs.
- Ability to work in teams with strong collaboration skills.
- Experience with Asset Management Systems.
- Good verbal and written skills.
- Attention to detail and ability to learn new duties.
- Ability to complete a task with minimal supervision.
- Valid Driver's License requires company vehicles on property.
- Employees must have a willingness to promote safety among the workforce, participate in Process Hazard Analysis procedures and Pre-Startup Safety Reviews.
- Employees must pass a full-face respiratory fit test.
- Employees must be able to lift 50 lbs.
- Must be able to work in PPE level C.
Drug Screen may be required.
