Responsibilities

The Sr Business Process Owner, Portfolio Health (BPO) serves as the underwriting subject matter expert and process improvement leader, overseeing portfolio health through policy reviews, eligibility assessments, cancellations, non-renewals, rescissions, and compliance-related decisions. In addition to providing guidance and escalation support for Policy Servicing Clerks, the Sr BPO collaborates with leadership to drive process and technology enhancements, maintain a strategic improvement roadmap, prioritize initiatives, monitor implementation of changes, and ensure job aids and process documentation remain accurate and up to date to support operational effectiveness and portfolio performance.

About the role

• Serve as Underwriting and Portfolio Health Subject-Matter Expert (SME)
• Mentor Policy Servicing Clerk team members, fostering a culture of excellence and integrity.
• Collaborate with other departments to develop and deploy Portfolio Health initiatives.
• Ensure compliance with regulations related to underwriting action and communication.
• Define process vision, guiding principles, strategy, future state design, and success metrics for the Portfolio Health verticals
• Design, document, and implement end-to-end processes, including scope definition, workflows, process maps, and operating standards for process outcomes including efficiency, compliance and customer experience
• Ensure consistent application of standards across regions, functions, and teams
• Establish KPIs and monitoring frameworks
• Collaborate across teams to implement process enhancements and resolve cross-functional conflicts while ensuring alignment to enterprise priorities
• Serve as an escalation point and decision authority for process design
• Champion continuous improvement culture

Qualifications

Additional Knowledge and Skills

Working effectively within an AI enabled environment:

• Ability to use AI tools (e.g., Microsoft Copilot) to support daily work
• Skills in evaluating AI outputs for accuracy, compliance, and bias
• Experience integrating AI into workflows to improve efficiency or insights
• Familiarity with AI assisted research, summarization, and content generation
• Understanding of responsible AI use, including ethics and data protection

Experience

• 5+ years of relevant business or operations experience required
• 3+ years auto underwriting experience preferred
• High School Diploma or equivalent required; Bachelor’s Degree in related field or equivalent experience preferred

The base range for this role is: $73,500 - $115,000

At GM Financial, we strive for transparency in all aspects of our business, including pay equity. This is the GM Financial pay range for this role and job level. The exact salary and compensation will vary based on factors like knowledge, skills, experience, and education.

This role is eligible to participate in a performance-based incentive plan. Full time employees are eligible to participate in health benefits on day one of employment.
