RN Surgical Specialty

Under general supervision, provides nursing care in a hospital to a variety of patients with health problems ranging from simple to complex. Assumes responsibility for an assigned group of patients. Documents patient responses to nursing interventions and prescribed medical treatments; notes all changes in physician orders for assigned patients. Assists physician in the examination of patients and in performing minor diagnostic procedures and treatments. Obtains and monitors physiological data of patients, observes physiological manifestations, and intervenes when necessary. Administers medication as prescribed; initiates, regulates, and monitors intravenous infusions and blood products. Delivers patient care competently. Interacts with family and patients regarding their care plan while in the hospital and at discharge. Informs patients and families of hospital procedures. Makes referrals regarding patient care needs to appropriate personnel. Delegates tasks to support staff. Performs other duties as assigned. This is a med/surg unit. Candidates must have acute care surgical floor experience. ENT and/or transplant experience preferred. The unit cares for post-surgical kidney, liver, and pancreas transplant patients. Also provides care for pre-transplant patients during their inpatient stay. Patients require close monitoring for infection, rejection, and timely medication delivery. This is not a PACU position. Any nurse on this floor will either work med/surg or stepdown dependent on nurse availability. Preceptor and charge experience is preferred.
