Job Title: General Production Worker – Crate Builder
Job Description
This role focuses on building custom crates and boxes from engineering prints and drawings to support safe shipment of finished products. You will cut wood and related materials to specified dimensions, assemble crates using hand and power tools, and prepare completed packages for staging and shipment. The position offers structured training, cross-training opportunities, and long-term growth in a clean, manufacturing environment.
Responsibilities
- Review and interpret prints, blueprints, and drawings to understand crate specifications, dimensions, and assembly requirements.
- Measure and cut wood and other materials to precise lengths using hand tools and power tools such as a skillsaw.
- Assemble crates and boxes by fitting and fastening components securely using tools such as impact drivers and other mechanical assembly equipment.
- Inspect assembled crates to ensure structural integrity, accuracy to specifications, and readiness for shipping.
- Prepare completed crates and packages for shipment, including labeling, wrapping, and securing contents as needed.
- Work closely with the materials team to stage, organize, and move completed crates to designated shipping or storage areas.
- Use general production and warehouse practices to maintain efficient workflow and support overall manufacturing operations.
- Follow all safety procedures, including the use of required personal protective equipment such as steel toe boots, and maintain a clean and organized work area.
- Participate in cross-training within production areas to support different tasks and learn additional skills as needed.
- Collaborate with team members and supervisors to meet production schedules and quality standards on both first and second shifts as required.
Essential Skills
- Proven experience using hand tools and power tools, including skillsaws for cutting wood and impact tools for assembling crates.
- Ability to read and interpret blueprints, prints, and drawings accurately.
- Competence with basic mechanical tasks and general production or assembly work.
- Familiarity with warehouse or manufacturing environments, including general labor and production activities.
- Ability to use a tape measure and perform accurate measurements for cutting and assembly.
- Capability to follow detailed instructions and work independently as well as part of a team.
- Steel toe boots and willingness to wear required personal protective equipment.
- Reliability to work scheduled shifts and train on first shift before transitioning to another shift if needed.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
- Preferred experience with material handling and operating equipment such as a forklift or hilo.
- Interest in learning a trade and developing long-term skills in a manufacturing environment.
- Comfort working with mechanical tools and equipment in a structured production process.
- Openness to cross-training in different production areas to expand skills and knowledge.

Work Environment
The facility is a clean, organized manufacturing operation that designs and produces specialized equipment in-house, from raw material through finished product. It includes departments such as Engineering, Machining, Welding, Metal Finishing, and Shipping/Receiving, all under one roof. The team works primarily on a Monday through Thursday schedule, with a first shift from 7:00 AM to 4:30 PM and a second shift from 4:30 PM to 3:00 AM, with training initially on first shift for approximately three months. Friday work may be available on an optional basis depending on team needs. The culture is relaxed yet professional and family oriented, with clear workflows and defined work-in-process areas. The role requires working attire suitable for a manufacturing setting, with steel toe boots required and appropriate personal protective equipment provided as needed for specific tasks. Employees operate hand tools, power tools, and other production equipment in a safe, well-maintained environment designed to support long-term employment and skill development.
Job Type & LocationThis is a Contract position based out of Madison Heights, MI.
Pay and BenefitsThe pay range for this position is $19.00 - $20.00/hr.
Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
