Job Location Denver Correctional Complex. This posting may be used for future vacancies at this location. Job Summary Colorado Department of Corrections has developed the Boiler Operator Supervisor Trainee Program to train individuals in correctional facility boiler operations. Classified as a Correctional Officer I. Trainees receive on‑job training in boiler operations and maintain safety and security. Upon successful completion trainees may advance to Correctional Support Trades Supervisor (CSTS I). Responsibilities Ensure safety and security of facility staff and inmates; conduct work site searches, monitor behavior, enforce security procedures, and respond to emergencies. Operate and maintain boiler house operations, perform preventive, predictive, and corrective maintenance on boilers and peripheral systems. Assist other trades such as plumbing, HVAC, electrical, and general maintenance as needed. Supervise assigned inmate workers, train them in boiler operations, manage schedules, conduct evaluations, and update records. Ensure compliance with Colorado Boiler Code, International Mechanical Code, American Correctional Association regulations and maintain budget and expense tracking. Work additional hours or shifts as needed to maintain security. Minimum Qualifications High School Diploma or GED certificate. Minimum 18 years of age. No felony convictions or domestic violence history. Valid, unrestricted driver’s license. Required Competencies Strong work ethic, integrity, and dependability. Sound judgment and decision‑making skills. Strong communication, interpersonal, and conflict resolution skills. Proficiency in boiler plant operations. Knowledge of predictive, preventive, and corrective maintenance. Ability to troubleshoot and maintain service in a high‑stress, security‑driven environment. Knowledge of local, state and federal regulations for compliance. Teamwork ability and effective supervision of inmates. Attention to detail and efficient use of resources. Computer skills and use of electronic programs. Self‑control and emotional resilience. English reading and communication fluency. Compliance with plain language guidelines. Preferred Qualifications Boiler Operator Certification. Experience as a utility plant or boiler operator. Experience installing, repairing, & maintaining HVAC systems with hot water or steam boilers above 15 psi. Supervisory/work‑lead experience affecting pay or status of staff or inmates.
