Works on-site according to designated schedule. Works non-regular hours to accommodate student athletic needs as required in multiple locations
SUMMARY:
Provides prevention and care of athletic injuries including therapeutic rehabilitation to allow for the least loss of competitive time, while keeping the mental and physical welfare of the athlete as the top priority. Reports to the Athletic Director(s) and Building Principal(s).
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Bachelors degree in a health-related field. One (1) year of related experience. Current National Athletic Trainers Association (NATA) Certification. Current Cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) and First Aid Certification. Current, or ability to obtain, certification as an instructor for CPR/AED training through American Red Cross or American Heart Association. Valid License by State of Idaho Board of Medicine as an Athletic Trainer. Hold a valid Idaho Standard Instructional Certificate or CTE Certificate with appropriate endorsement for assignment. Valid Drivers license. Any equivalent combination of education and experience. Spanish language skills or bilingual/biliterate preferred.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: (This list of essential duties is not a comprehensive listing of all functions and tasks performed by positions in this class. Responsible for the treatment and supervision of treatment for all minor athletic injuries and conditions.
Assists in giving basic instruction to athletic staff members in the prevention and care of injuries that many occur.
Refers injured athletes to physicians for diagnosis, treatment, and rehabilitative protocols on an as needed basis.
Implements and follows through the instructed protocol from the athletes physician.
Develops and supervises rehabilitative programs appropriate for the injured athlete, under a physicians directions as time allows.
Develops an emergency action plan for athletic emergencies.
Advises and assists the coaching staff in injury prevention and conditioning programs.
Teaches Sports Medicine courses and maintain an athletic training student-aide program in accordance with school and district policies.
Educates athletes how to build their strength and avoid further injury.
Recommends special diets and exercises.
Evaluates athletic injuries that occur during interscholastic activities and provides the appropriate treatment and rehabilitation protocol for that injury.
Determines if an athlete is capable of continued participation in a game or practice if the athlete has been injured.
Covers contests and practices as assigned.
Travels to out of area athletic events as assigned.
Implements and oversees coverage for all home athletic events and away events as required.
Responsible for reporting injuries to coaches, parents, and athletic office on the proper forms and keeping an annual record of athletic injuries.
Responsible for concussion management and protocol compliance
Responsible for maintaining an athletic file on all athletes to include injury reports and treatment, etc.
Responsible for communicating with family physicians and specialists, the school district, coaches, athletes, and their parents.
Ensures facilities are safe for play or practice from both physical and environmental standpoints and updates the Emergency Action Plan as needed
Responsible for the safe operation, inventory, and requisition of all training room supplies and equipment.
Establish daily hours of operation for the athletic training facility. Communicate these hours with the supervisor, coaching staff, and athletes.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:
Skill in communicating clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing. Skill in reading and interpreting documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Skill in communicating in one-on-one and small group situations to parents, students, and other employees of the district. Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form. Ability to work in a friendly manner and to develop effective working relationships with students, staff, and the school community. Ability to perform duties with awareness of all District requirements and Board of Education policies, and applicable laws.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORK ENVIRONMENT:
The job is performed under minimal temperature variations and in a generally hazard free environment. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to use mental acuity and repetitive motion; use hands to hold, move, feel and manipulate objects; reach with hands and arms; sit. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus. Specific speaking and hearing abilities required by this job include expressing or exchanging ideas by means of the spoken word and receiving detailed information through oral communication. Performs sedentary work exerting up to 10 pounds of force occasionally and/or negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull, or otherwise move objects.
