Work Schedule: Varies 1-6 hours per week, not to exceed 29. Shifts based on the organization's operational needs. This position will work primarily on campus with the potential of performing some work hours remotely (from home).

Established in 1963, ASI is a non-profit corporation guided by a student board and managed by full-time professional staff.  ASI is considered a part of the Cal Poly Pomona Division of Student Affairs with a dashed reporting line to Administrative Affairs. The Fitness team within ASI Campus Recreation strives to bring a wide range of program offerings within the BRIC. From hosting over 40 free group fitness classes per week to our personal training services provided by our nationally certified staff, Fitness offers something for everyone in our campus community. Our consultation services provide an entry point for those beginning their fitness journey and our specialized workshops provide deeper knowledge at a competitive industry price. Through our programs, partnerships, and services to the campus community, Fitness brings an entry way for our Broncos to create lasting habits of health and wellness that will bolster their experiences within CPP and beyond. 

POSITION DEFINITION

Under minimal supervision from the Group Fitness Supervisor & Fitness Manager, the Dance Instructor is responsible for leading group fitness classes and promoting the fitness program at the Bronco Recreation and Intramural Complex (BRIC). The Dance Instructor is responsible for offering safe, effective, and fun exercise formats in a group setting and performs skilled tasks requiring advanced certification, specialized knowledge, prior relevant experience, and considerable independent judgment and decision-making.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES 

• Lead in person (at the BRIC) structured group activities and/or fitness classes appropriate for varying levels of physical fitness and experience

• Arrive on time to scheduled class or clinic; ensure that classes begin and end on time

• Clean and organize studio (including equipment used) after each group fitness class

• Ensure proper check-in of participants for instructional clinics and fee-based programs

• Enforce fitness studio and BRIC policies

• Report accurate class participation numbers, as directed

• Assist with special events as assigned

• Maintain current knowledge of other ASI and Campus Recreation programs and services

• Maintain open communication with the Group Fitness Supervisor & Fitness Manager

• Attend trainings, meetings, and workshops as required

• Maintain relevant certifications including CPR/AED and First Aid, and specialized certifications if applicable

• Perform other duties as assigned

QUALIFICATIONS

• Minimum of 3 months of customer service experience

• Minimum of 1 year of dance instruction experience

• ACE Group Fitness Certification Preferred

• Lay Responder CPR/AED/FA within 30 days of hire (provided by ASI)

• Demonstrated ability to work with an ethnically diverse and culturally pluralistic student population and campus community

• Ability to satisfactorily complete a background check (including a criminal records check)

WORK ENVIRONMENT

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to sit, talk, and hear; manual dexterity, eye-hand coordination, and verbal communication; use of office equipment: telephones, calculator, copier and fax. Must be able to walk, stand, bend, and lift up to 45 pounds.
