At our organization, Respiratory Therapists play a vital role in assisting infants, children, and adolescents (from birth to 22 years) in overcoming respiratory challenges, enabling them to achieve their fullest potential. Under the guidance of Pulmonologists and attending physicians, patients and their families receive comprehensive care from our skilled respiratory therapists.

Many of our young patients, particularly those born prematurely or with cardio-respiratory issues, often require complete ventilator support while they await necessary surgeries or until their lungs develop sufficiently. Once the underlying issues are addressed, we may gradually reduce their reliance on the ventilator. In certain cases, children may need to use a ventilator during the night; in such instances, we equip families with the training and knowledge to safely care for their child at home while still on the ventilator.

Our Respiratory Therapists specialize in:

• Management and weaning from ventilators
• Tracheostomy tube care and decannulation
• Non-invasive ventilatory support (Bi-Level ventilation)
• Assessment, management, and delivery of respiratory medications
• Evaluation and exercise of respiratory muscles
• CPR and airway management
• Education for patients and families
• Transporting patients to other healthcare facilities
• Additional responsibilities as needed for departmental operations

Qualifications for the Role:

A high school diploma or equivalent is mandatory. Candidates must have completed a two-year certification program or a four-year degree in respiratory care. Familiarity with medical terminology is essential.

Required Certifications, Registrations, or Licenses:

• Valid respiratory care license in Massachusetts.
• Current Basic Cardiac Life Support (BCLS) certification is required; Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) and Neonatal Advanced Life Support (NALS) certifications are recommended.
• Registered with the National Board for Respiratory Care.
