CobbFendley is seeking an experienced Power Delivery Designer in our San Antonio, Texas office.

EDUCATION, REGISTRATION, CERTIFICATION //

• Highschool diploma, GED, or demonstrated equivalent combination of education, training and experience required.
• Associates degree in a design, engineering, surveying or related discipline (often focusing on Drafting, Civil Design, or AutoCAD, Civil 3D, MicroStation, OpenRoads Designer, ArcGIS), preferred.

EXPERIENCE + KNOWLEDGE SKILLS ABILITY (KSA)

Emerging // Basic understanding and minimal practical experience; requires guidance and supervision. No design experience is required, must have at least 3 years of experience as a Technician.

• Knowledge of engineering design principles, applicable codes and standards, and established design practices used in the planning and development of projects.
• Skills in using industry-standard engineering design software (e.g., AutoCAD, Civil 3D, MicroStation, OpenRoads Designer, ArcGIS, Microsoft Office, etc.) to develop, modify, and coordinate engineering designs, drawings, and technical deliverables.
• Ability to analyze data, apply design criteria, and use standard office and engineering software to produce accurate design documentation and support project completion.

RESPONSIBILITIES

1. Design + Analysis //

• Support Project Managers, Project Engineers, and Senior Designers with assigned design tasks under supervision.
• Utilize engineering and drafting software to develop plan, profile, cross-section, and utility drawings from survey data, record drawings, and design criteria.
• Interpret survey notes, utility records, specifications, and engineering plans to develop accurate base drawings.
• Translate rough sketches, design concepts, and engineering direction into construction drawings.
• Incorporate redline markups and review comments.
• Perform basic engineering calculations, including elevations, grades, utility dimensions, and material quantities.
• Support field data collection and utility research to inform design development if applicable.

2. Compliance + Quality //

• Apply Company QA/QC processes and procedures in the preparation of design deliverables.
• Perform self-checks on drawings and data for accuracy, completeness and consistency.
• Maintain organized and accurate project files and documentation.

3. Communication + Collaboration //

• Work with supervisor, Project Manager, mentors, and various internal personnel to complete assignments within discipline.
• Coordinate with project teams to support design development.

4. Training, Learning + Advancement //

• Learn and apply company drafting standards, workflows, and design tools.
• Participate in training, learning and advancement opportunities, may assist with the development of others in a mentorship role and/or developing tools and resources.

5. Client + Internal Satisfaction //

• Support internal project teams by delivering assigned work accurately and on schedule.
• May work with internal clients daily and escalate concerns when needed.

6. Technical //

• Apply the client’s standards, guidelines, specifications, practices, and procedures and/or appropriate industry standards in preparing layouts of overhead and/or underground electric distribution facilities.
• Prepare manual or computer assisted design and construction drawings of a complex nature, cost estimates and bill of materials and any other required documents and reports for construction and maintenance projects.
• Assist in the performance of load studies on distribution circuits and transformers; investigate circuit reliability and voltage issues to determine necessary corrective action.
• Prepare and submit required reports and correspondence.
• Utilize client and Company information systems to track and update design activities.
• Acquire field data necessary to prepare the appropriate design.
• Ability to handle contacts with clients and other agencies in connection with project design responsibilities.
• Field verification of equipment and marking/staking new facilities.
• Other job-related duties as assigned.
• Independent research and adapt to changing priorities.
• Work in a collaborative team environment and deliver accurate work product.
• Adhere to CobbFendley’s safety standards to uphold a safe and efficient environment.

PHYSICAL/COGNITIVE REQUIREMENTS + ENVIRONMENTAL FACTORS

Most work is performed in a professional office environment. Some trips to client offices and outdoor environments for observations will be required.

• Seated and Standing Position. Extended periods of sitting and standing in an upright position at a workstation.
• Mobility. Movement within the office and job sites, including navigating between floors, workstations, and outdoor environments with potential for uneven surfaces.
• Neck Movement. Forward flexion, extension, or lateral rotation of the head and neck while using multiple computer screens.
• Repetitive Motion. Repetitive finger movements for operating a computer mouse and typing on a keyboard.
• Arm Movement. Extending hands and arms in various directions, such as overhead, below the waist, forward, or laterally.
• Object Handling. Raising or lowering objects from one level to another and transporting objects by holding them in the hands, arms, or over the shoulder.
• Cognitive Requirements. Selective attention, oral comprehension, oral expression, speech recognition, speech clarity, written comprehension, written expression, problem sensitivity, deductive reasoning, inductive reasoning, number facility, information ordering, category flexibility, flexibility of closure, fluency of ideas, and originality.
• Office Conditions. Includes extensive use of electronic devices such as computers, printers, copiers, scanners, plotters, and telephones. Additionally, tasks may involve the use of cutting tools and equipment like rotary paper cutters and plotting devices.
• Outdoor Conditions. Includes walking and climbing on uneven surfaces, confined spaces, and exposure to extreme weather conditions (heat and freezing temperatures). Potential exposure to high noise levels and various allergens, including poison ivy, sumac, dust, pollen, and cedar. Potential exposure to wildlife hazards such as animals, insects, and plants.
• Safety and Equipment Use. Regular use of personal protective equipment (PPE) is required, along with use of hand and power tools.

EXPECTED WORK HOURS

• This is a full-time position, generally 40 hours per week, however, hours may fluctuate depending on department needs including the use of overtime.
• CobbFendley’s standard operating hours are Monday through Friday, 7:30 AM to 4:30 PM CST. Generally, employees receive a 1-hour unpaid lunch break free of duty. Please note, operating hours and lunch hours may differ based on project workload, primarily for field staff.

WORK LOCATION FLEXIBILTY

• This position is eligible for a hybrid schedule once the training period is complete as established by the department.
