Posting Description

FACILITIES MANAGER, Materials Science and Engineering, manages operations for all departmental facilities within the Department of Materials Science and Engineering (DMSE). Responsible for building maintenance, facility design and construction, space upkeep and planning, IT vendor oversight, event safety and security, and overall operational continuity to ensure 24/7/365 coverage. Will manage operations for all departmental facilities and ensures that 7 day/24 hours/365 days operational coverage is provided; manage relationships with multiple MIT support units and liaises the services provided by them, particularly grounds, custodial services, repair and maintenance, HVAC, plumbing, pest control, recycling, electrical, environmental health and safety, fire protection, and facilities engineering; monitor routine maintenance, space upkeep, emergency repairs, furnishings, moving/storage, capital improvement needs, facility design and construction, and environmental health and safety issues across all departmental spaces; relay shutdown and emergency notifications to all affected parties and grants final shutdown approval; and serve as the departmental representative to the Office of Campus Planning for the improvement, development, and master planning of departmental facilities.The full job description is available here:

Job Requirements

REQUIRED: Bachelor’s degree in Facilities Management or related field; a minimum of three years of relevant experience; in-depth understanding of building systems; experience with project management; dealing with building facilities, systems, and construction; able to effectively interact/communicate with a diverse community: faculty, staff, students, facilities’ staff, architects, engineers, and contractors; ability to manage multiple concurrent tasks; proficiency with computer hardware and standard software program; and ability to work with minimum to no direction or self-initiate task(s) individually or as a member of a team. PREFERRED: Understanding of local building codes and experience with operations and renovations of labs, including an understanding of EHS compliance and lab safety.
