DESCRIPTION OF WORK This position focuses on maintaining and repairing vehicles, equipment, and hand tools essential to county transportation operations. As an Automotive Mechanic, you will perform the following duties: Equipment Repair: Perform skilled repairs on cars, trucks, tractors, construction equipment, and powered hand tools Preventive Maintenance: Complete oil changes, diagnostics, tune-ups, tire changes, and system adjustments on gasoline and diesel equipment State Inspections: Conduct official safety and emissions inspections and complete required documentation and repair verification Diesel Servicing: Carry out service tasks on diesel equipment including replacing filters, pumps, gaskets, and related components Field Work: Perform emergency road service and complete maintenance tasks at county stockpiles when required Safety Practices: Maintain a safe work area, follow protective procedures, and report injuries or hazards promptly Work Schedule and Additional Information: Full-time employment Work hours are 7:00 AM to 3:00 PM, Monday - Friday, with a 30-minute lunch. Schedule is subject to change based on weather/season. Winter shifts are 4:00 AM to 12:00 PM or 12:00 PM to 8:00 PM. Telework: You will not have the option to telework in this position. REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITY QUALIFICATIONS Minimum Experience and Training Requirements: Four years of experience in the automotive mechanic trade; or completion of an approved apprenticeship; or Any combination of experience and training which provides the required knowledges, skills, and abilities. Special Requirements: This position requires possession of a valid driver's license which is not under suspension. This position requires possession of a valid Class 1 Inspection Mechanic certificate or equivalent that allows inspection for Class 1 vehicles. This position will require possession of a CFC-12 Refrigerant Recycling Certificate and a 134A Refrigerant Recycling Certificate, which can be obtained after hire Additional Requirements: You must provide your own mechanics toolbox and basic tool set.
