Project Engineer - Renewable Energy

We are seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Project Engineer to support the design, engineering, and technical development of utility-scale solar photovoltaic (PV) and battery energy storage system (BESS) projects. This role will work closely with engineering leadership, utility providers, EPC contractors, engineering consultants, and internal teams to coordinate project deliverables, monitor progress, and ensure compliance with technical specifications, permitting requirements, and contractual obligations.

The ideal candidate will have an engineering background, strong analytical and organizational skills, and experience in renewable energy or power generation. This position offers opportunities to contribute to multiple phases of project development, design coordination, and execution while building expertise in the renewable energy industry.

Key Responsibilities

• Track engineering deliverables, contractor submittals, project schedules, and milestones using project management tools such as Procore and Smartsheet.
• Review drawings, technical specifications, material selections, and contractor submittals to ensure compliance with project requirements and engineering standards.
• Coordinate with internal engineering, development, and construction teams, as well as external engineering consultants, EPC contractors, and utility providers.
• Organize and maintain engineering documentation for permits, utility interconnection submissions, project approvals, and regulatory requirements.
• Work with Owner's Engineers and Engineers of Record on electrical, civil, structural, solar racking, and SCADA design deliverables.
• Coordinate design review meetings, document discussions, track action items, and prepare project progress reports to support timely execution.
• Assist with utility interconnection studies, technical requirements, communication protocols, and coordination with utilities and other stakeholders.
• Review site grading, drainage, access roads, and other civil design elements associated with renewable energy projects.
• Participate in technical reviews and discussions related to solar PV plants, battery energy storage systems (BESS), substations, and associated electrical and civil infrastructure.
• Review and analyze geotechnical, hydrology, and interconnection study data to support project design and engineering decisions.
• Participate in project site visits, engineering inspections, and data collection activities as needed.
• Leverage AI and OpenAI technologies to improve engineering design reviews, documentation, workflow management, and overall project efficiency.

Required Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Engineering; Electrical Engineering, particularly high-voltage systems, is preferred.
• At least 3 years of experience in engineering or a related role within the renewable energy or power generation industry.
• Basic understanding of electrical or civil engineering design principles.
• Familiarity with utility-scale solar PV, battery energy storage systems, power generation, or related infrastructure projects.
• Understanding of grid interconnection processes, utility requirements, permitting, and technical documentation.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, including Excel, Word, and PowerPoint.
• Familiarity with project management tools such as Procore or Smartsheet is preferred.
• Knowledge of AutoCAD, Civil 3D, or power system analysis tools is an advantage.
• Strong analytical, organizational, problem-solving, and project coordination skills.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to collaborate across multidisciplinary teams.
• Ability to manage multiple priorities, meet deadlines, and work effectively in a dynamic project environment.
• Willingness to travel approximately 10%-20% for project site visits and stakeholder meetings.

Preferred Qualifications

• Professional Engineer (PE) or Project Management Professional (PMP) certification.
• Experience coordinating with utility companies, Independent System Operators (ISOs), permitting agencies, EPC contractors, and engineering consultants.
• Exposure to high-voltage electrical systems, substations, solar PV plant design, or battery energy storage projects.
• Experience reviewing engineering drawings, technical specifications, contractor deliverables, and design packages.
• Familiarity with AI-based tools for engineering analysis, design review, and workflow optimization.

Physical Requirements

• Ability to sit or stand for extended periods while performing engineering and project coordination activities.
• Ability to move between work areas and project sites as required.
• Ability to lift or move objects weighing up to 20 pounds.
• Ability to perform repetitive hand, wrist, and finger movements when using computers and technical equipment.
• Ability to review technical documents and drawings with accuracy, attention to detail, and thoroughness.
