Root is building the future of online community: a next-gen communication platform where developers create fully custom apps and experiences that run entirely within Root. Our goal is to empower all the world’s communities with technology. We're early-stage, product-driven, and culturally online. About the Role We're hiring a Social Engagement Manager to connect with our users. This role is about being present, not running campaigns. You'll own day-to-day social engagement, primarily on X, and help Root show up in conversations naturally, cleverly, and consistently. You are the connective tissue between Root and the broader social internet. If you spend hours scrolling, replying, riffing, and thinking "we should be in this thread,", this role is for you. Reports to: COO (Adrian Stevens) Works alongside: Community Manager (Fi) - handles moderation, support, and community feedback External marketing partner - handles campaigns and content strategy What You'll Do Post daily from Root’s official X account with a consistent, culturally fluent voice Actively reply and participate in relevant conversations where Root belongs Inject Root into relevant threads on Reddit, X, etc. (without forcing it) Build recognition and familiarity for the Root account over time Amplify and riff on content from our external marketing partner Track trends, memes, and cultural shifts in online communities Share notable moments and emerging narratives with the team What This Role Is Not Not a campaign or brand strategy role Not community moderation or support Not performance marketing or lead generation Success is about presence, taste, and engagement quality. We'll track engagement growth over time, but we won't micromanage daily metrics. We care more about trajectory than spreadsheets. What Success Looks Like Root's X account feels active, human, and worth replying to People engage back instead of scrolling past Other accounts recognize Root and respond organically Root shows up in conversations where it belongs, and stays out where it doesn't Who You Are Extremely online and culturally fluent Comfortable posting quickly without losing judgment Sharp, concise, and instinctively aware of tone Confident enough to be clever, restrained enough to know when not to Familiar with gaming, modding, or internet-native communities Comfortable deleting posts that don’t land and moving on More interested in participation than planning You do not need a traditional marketing background. Personal accounts, side projects, fandom involvement, or community participation matter more than resumes. Qualifications Demonstrated experience being active on platforms like X, Reddit, Discord, or similar Strong written voice and sense of timing Ability to work independently and move quickly Bonus: familiarity with gaming, Minecraft, modding, or adjacent cultures Details Full-time West Hollywood CA prefered, open to remote (US-based only) $75,000 base salary + equity We're hiring for instinct and taste, not polish. #J-18808-Ljbffr Root
