Position summary The Chief Financial Officer is the senior financial executive for a privately held group of aviation, aircraft services, and affiliated operating and real estate entities. Reporting directly to the owner, this position owns financial reporting, treasury, credit and lender relationships, planning, tax coordination, and internal control across the entire group. This is a build role. The successful candidate will be the first CFO the business has had and will construct the finance function while operating hands‑on. The immediate priorities are a reliable multi‑entity close, a lender‑ready global cash flow package, and a forward‑looking covenant and liquidity forecast. Principal responsibilities Financial reporting and close Own the monthly close across all entities; deliver consolidated and combining financial statements on a defined calendar Perform intercompany reconciliation and elimination on a current basis Build the reporting package the owner uses to run the business - entity-level and departmental P&L, balance sheet, and cash flow Coordinate the annual outside accounting engagement and year‑end tax workpapers Treasury, credit, and lender relations Own the global cash flow package used by lenders. Credit for aircraft and equipment at this scale is underwritten on the owner's global cash flow across all entities and personal returns, not on the cash flow of the financed asset. Manage daily cash position, sweep and concentration arrangements, debt service, and borrowing base reporting Negotiate credit facilities, term debt, and equipment and aircraft financing; evaluate lease versus buy and financing structures Prepare covenant compliance certificates and forecast covenant headroom forward Own banking, surety, and insurance broker relationships Planning and asset economics Build the annual budget, rolling forecast, and thirteen‑week cash flow Model aircraft economics: direct operating cost per flight hour, fixed versus variable cost structure, utilization and breakeven, charter revenue offset, and residual value and exit scenarios, benchmarked to recognized industry cost data Evaluate capital projects, acquisitions, and facility investments on a defensible return basis Tax, control, systems, and team Coordinate tax planning and compliance with the outside CPA firm across entity structure, S‑corporation matters, cost recovery elections, material participation, and state apportionment Coordinate aviation‑specific tax exposure - federal excise tax on air transportation, sales and use tax on aircraft and parts, and personal‑use imputation - with counsel and the CPA firm Design and monitor internal controls, approval matrices, and disbursement and fraud prevention procedures Own the accounting platform and reporting stack; automate recurring reporting Hire, lead, and develop the accounting team Legal and risk interface Manage the outside counsel relationship, including scope, budget, and spend reporting Own the contract administration workflow - intake, review routing, execution, and the contract repository Perform business‑terms review of commercial agreements and elevate legal issues to outside counsel Maintain the corporate records calendar - entity filings, registered agent, and minute book upkeep - with counsel support Place and renew insurance coverage and manage claims Required qualifications Bachelor's degree in accounting or finance Ten or more years of progressive accounting and finance experience, including at least five years at Controller level or above Demonstrated ownership of a multi‑entity close and consolidated or combining financial statements Direct experience with bank credit facilities, covenant compliance, and lender relationships Strong technical GAAP knowledge and hands‑on financial modeling capability Experience in a closely held or family‑owned business environment Preferred qualifications CPA required or strongly preferred; MBA, CMA, or CGMA an additional plus Public accounting background, particularly with closely held clients Aviation, transportation, equipment leasing, or capital‑intensive asset experience Experience with related‑party structures and intercompany accounting Acquisition integration experience Contract administration or commercial terms negotiation experience Competencies Builder's mindset. Comfortable with an unfinished function and willing to do the work personally until staff exist. Owner-facing communication. Translates financial results into decisions for a non‑financial owner. Discretion. Handles personal and family financial information appropriately. Credibility with lenders. Presents well to a credit committee and defends the numbers. Bias to action. Closes the month, files the certificate, and answers the bank without being chased. Compensation and terms Base salary range of $185,000 to $265,000, commensurate with experience and credentials, plus an annual performance incentive targeted at 15% to 30% of base. Total target cash compensation of approximately $215,000 to $345,000.
