Job Summary Performs various security related duties to ensure the safety of hospital patients, visitors and staff. Responds to all incidents of disruptive/assaultive individuals, investigates reports of suspicious activity and performs customer service functions as described by policy/procedures. Armed Security Officers will perform facility and grounds patrols and inspections. Officers will report their daily activities in a log and/or incident reports; and conduct other duties assigned by the Security Supervisor.

Minimum Job Qualifications
- Licensure or other certifications: Valid GA Drivers License and current BLS certification required or must be obtained within 30 days of hire.
- Educational Requirements: High School Diploma or GED
- Minimum Experience: Military, police, corrections, private security background (minimum of two (2) years experience required).

- The ability to work well with others; the willingness to accept direction from the supervisors and senior officers
- The ability to learn and perform the basic skills and procedures designated for security officers
- Must be adaptable in changing situations and work assignments
- Acquire the skills needed to assess specific needs and interact with different age groups
- Legible handwriting as demonstrated on written reports
- Effective computer skills
- Is knowledgeable of and adheres to all federal, state and local laws as well as the facility policies and procedures
- Managing the aggressive patient (CIT): De-escalation Training
- ASP Tactical Baton Training
- Firearms Training
- Hospital Defensive Tactics Training
- Basic Taser Training
- Make routine and random tours of facility and grounds using established patrolling techniques and reporting all findings. Lighting surveys of campus and buildings. All hazardous conditions that may exist. All situations requiring maintenance. Aesthetic needs to uphold the image of the facility.
- Initiates investigations on security or risk management incidents and reports findings daily to the supervisor and coordinator. Accidents (pedestrian or vehicle) and injuries. Thefts. Disturbances. Complaints.
- Initiates and participates in training drills and proper documentation of each completed according to NGHS policy/procedure as required by JCAHO, OSHA, NFPA, law or other regulatory agency. Fire drills, fire safety/response training. Bomb threat drills, response/search drills. Infant/Child Abduction drills and education. Workplace Violence drills and education. Theft prevention/personal safety education.
- Attends staff meetings and training sessions as scheduled. Officer is timely and actively participates.
- Obtains a minimum score of 80% with a Smith & Wesson M&P 40 semi-auto pistol sidearm certification in accordance with departmental policy.
- Cleans and maintains weapon iin an operational manner and is of the type specified by departmental policy.
- Weapon is loaded with hospital issued .40 caliber ammunition.
- Completes a minimum of 16 hours of professional training, in accordance with state regulations, is completed annually and documented proof has been presented.
- Obtains professional or manufacturer certification for all defensive tools and equipment in use. Presents documented proof.
- Assists newer officers in identifying strengths and weaknesses in performance of task. Independently seeks and obtains training on his/her own and presents documented proof.
- Responds on request for assistance in a timely manner. Unlock/lock doors. Motor vehicle assistance (jump starts, lost keys, flat tires). Escorts of funds. Safety escorts to parking lots. All public concerns.
- Negotiates with and gains the cooperation and compliance from the hospital publics to maintain the policies and procedures of the institution and defrayed confrontation when possible.
- Solicits, encourages, and answers questions from the hospital's public while demonstrating a positive willingness to assist them.
- Maintains a high degree of accuracy and accountability when handling funds, valuables and items of property.
- Manages time wisely, prioritizes calls and shares workloads to assure that tasks are completed in a timely manner.
- When assigned special duties/tasks, the officer carries them out and reports his/her findings back to the supervisor and/or coordinator in an expedient manner.
- Performs emergency procedures (codes, fire or disaster codes) according to policy.
- Responds without prompting to confrontational situations for back up and support of other officers or hospital staff.
- Develops communication skills to de-escalate confrontational situations. Interpersonal skills. Non-violent crisis intervention. Ability to know how to compromise and refer to a higher level.
- Uses all the equipment of the department correctly, and maintains equipment in good operational condition.
- Frequently observes CCTV system looking for suspicious/unusual activity.
- Demonstrates the ability to interview a wide variety of individuals in a courteous and unbiased manner.
- Demonstrates good judgment in prioritizing requests and responding to emergency calls for assistance to control disorderly conduct or combative patients.
- Under the most extreme conditions, maintains a level of compassion and understanding keeping the patients care, welfare, safety and security in mind as well as all others involved.
- Under the above conditions, maintains a highly professional attitude (verbally and physically) and exhibits the ability to use the minimum level of force on the continuum to gain the advantage during a physical confrontation.
- Attends mandatory protective equipment training and maintains proficiency regarding usage.
