DCE Director of Engineering

Director of Engineering Location: Austin, TX 78701; Chicago, IL 60654; Tampa, FL 33607; New York, NY 10020 To start as soon as possible, full time, permanent Functional Area Administration; Engineering; Geotechnics; Operations & Maintenance; Power Plants; Process Management Job Overview The Director of Engineering will oversee PV and Battery Storage Engineering activities, including project development engineering, energy modeling, detailed design, and commissioning support. The role manages both PV and Energy Storage Engineering resources across multiple Distributed Energy projects and conducts work through internal or external resources. Role Responsibilities Plan, supervise, manage, and coordinate PV and BES Engineering Design efforts through in‑house and external resources Resolve issues as they arise through the development and construction process Stay abreast of tariffs, local utility design standards, and development requirements Ensure all design deliverables meet internal engineering standards Manage internal and external resources for technical support during PV and BES project development and construction Prepare and maintain external engineering specifications and scopes of work Review and confirm the accuracy of work performed and methods used by engineering staff or external resources Review and evaluate new and existing equipment and technologies, updating system design standards or approaches as appropriate Mentor engineering staff and foster their growth Participate in industry trade groups and policy working groups related to distribution system modernization, tariffs, and policies Review and approve detailed engineering design work and provide feedback to refine processes and procedures Answer questions and resolve issues raised by sales, engineering, and project management teams Spearhead new product development initiatives and identify value engineering opportunities Review design approach methods and equipment selection to ensure optimal project design and customer goals Establish and maintain budgets for third‑party engineering firms Communicate and collaborate with departments, suppliers, and contractors Maintain technical contract exhibits during construction of projects through EPCs or subcontractors Support development, including project cost estimating and construction of projects, and conduct on‑site visits Establish and uphold standard processes and procedures for the Engineering team Review Power Purchase Agreements and EPC agreements for design compliance Oversee testing and quality assurance checks by Engineering staff to verify project quality Job Requirements and Experience Undergraduate (BS) degree in Electrical or Mechanical Engineering PE Registration as a Professional Engineer required Valid driver’s license Minimum 10 years of experience in Renewable energy projects (PV and Energy Storage) Demonstrated knowledge and experience leading multi‑disciplinary engineering teams Project management skills to keep projects, processes, and the entire engineering team on track Ability to work individually or as part of a team Self‑motivated attitude with multitasking and thriving in a timeline‑driven environment Proficient with Microsoft Office, AutoCAD, and SKM/ETap Analytical and mathematical mindset for evaluating and solving problems Effective communication across organizational boundaries to achieve goals and meet deadlines Leadership skills necessary to manage and work within cross‑functional teams Experience with specifications, SOW, and contract writing Ability to represent the company professionally Detail‑oriented with an eye for the big picture Strong interpersonal skills for internal and external collaboration within tight deadlines Ability to plan, manage, and produce permits and contract documents for PV and Energy Storage projects Physical ability to lift equipment up to 50 lbs Safe handling of extreme field environments (hot, cold, etc.) when necessary Willingness and ability to travel to and from job sites to support project development and construction Motivated self‑starter, goal‑oriented, with strong problem‑solving abilities Proven ability to empathize, build relationships, and communicate with a diverse set of backgrounds Office‑based role with some travel and occasional visits to RWEA offices and field locations Capacity to sit, walk, or stand for long durations of time EEO Statement Applicants must be legally authorized to work in the United States. The stated range is a general guideline and may vary based on scope, responsibilities, education, experience, certifications, key skills, and market conditions.
