Senior Civil Engineer

Class Code: Civil Engineer (Experience - 6 Years+) Salary Range: $95,000 to $110,000 Title: Senior Civil Engineer Reports to: Engineering Manager Position Purpose The AutoCAD Civil 3D Design Engineer will work on various high profile civil engineering projects, which may include local, state, and/or federal projects, such as roadway, drainage, airport, bridge, utility, water/wastewater, and traffic projects. The position is responsible for keeping the project on schedule and under budget, communicating with all project stakeholders, anticipating problems, and ensuring project goals are met. This is a regular, full‑time, exempt position subject to extended work hours, including evenings and weekends. Essential Functions Plans, reviews, designs, and certifies drawings for roadways, streets, drainage, utilities, buildings, and other structures and systems; conducts field inspections; signs and seals engineering plans, reports, specifications, and contract documents. Drafts and creates engineering drawings from field data, sketches, and verbal or written instructions; performs geometric design calculations for public works projects. Coordinates various aspects of design projects and engineering programs, including preparing preliminary and final cost estimates, construction plans, contract documents, and material specifications. Manages staff through appropriate delegation and supervision; meets regularly to resolve workload and technical issues; reviews work in progress, anticipates problems, and recommends improvements to processes, interpreting statutes and regulations. Supervises assigned staff; prioritizes and assigns tasks and projects; disciplines, trains, cross‑trains, evaluates, and counsels employees; monitors work performance and ensures compliance with policies and regulations. Provides detailed information and documentation for assigned projects. Leads review, coordination, and administration of projects to deliver quality results on budget and on schedule. Reviews construction plans for compliance with local, state, and federal guidelines, codes, and design standards. Conducts special project studies and technical reports; recommends design improvements and prepares them. Provides mentoring and technical direction to engineering staff. Minimum Qualifications Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering. At least six years of experience as a professional civil engineer. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Principles and practices of civil engineering, surveying, and project management. Familiarity with local, state, and federal policies, standards, codes, and ordinances. Effective employee supervision. Ability to read and interpret engineering plans and specifications. Understanding of contract documents, legal documents, and visual aids.
