Personal Trainer - Opening Shift (4:45 a.m. – 12:00 p.m.) Job Category: Health and Wellness Requisition Number: PERSO004135 Location: YMCA at OP Schnabel Park 9606 Bandera Rd San Antonio, TX 78250, USA About the Role: This position supports the mission of the YMCA of Greater San Antonio by helping members achieve their wellness potential through approved programs. The Personal Trainer works under the direction of the Health & Wellness Director and the Member Engagement Director. Responsibilities include conducting training sessions, tracking member adherence, maintaining a safe environment, and supporting group initiatives. Essential Functions Conduct personal training sessions for YMCA members as assigned. Contribute to a positive, safe, and nurturing environment. Track members’ adherence and motivate continued participation. Follow YMCA strength training and nutrition guidelines. Submit key indicator data to the supervisor and assist in achieving group and personal goals. Attend required training classes offered by the YMCA of San Antonio. Promote the YMCA story and values with all participants. Report equipment concerns and maintain safety protocols. Follow accident reporting procedures and risk‑management policies. Clean equipment as directed. Learn and greet members personally. Participate in staff meetings at departmental and branch levels. Support co‑workers in other departments when needed. Teach and practice the five YMCA Character Development Values. Assist with the Annual Partners campaign. Maintain certifications and stay current with industry trends. Refrain from diagnosing injuries, providing medical advice, or endorsing commercial health products. Engage members on the wellness floor and in group exercise classes. Perform other duties as assigned. Leadership Competencies Communication & Influence Engaging Community Qualifications 4‑year college degree in a health‑related field preferred; equivalent experience acceptable. 1‑2 years of experience in health and wellness. Live national personal training or strength training certification (ACE, ACSM, NSCA, etc.). Knowledge of fitness research, program design, anatomy, physiology, exercise principles and behavior change methods. Required certifications within first week: Bloodborne Pathogens, Hazardous Communications. First‑day certifications within first 60 days: YMCA approved basic lifesaving skills (CPR, First Aid, AED, Emergency Oxygen). Obtain YMCA certifications within 6 months: YMCA Principles of Healthy Lifestyles and YMCA Foundations of Strength & Conditioning. Preferred Team player: Works well as part of a group. Enthusiastic: Shows intense enjoyment and interest. Detail oriented: Pays careful attention to all task details. Dedicated: Devoted to tasks with loyalty and integrity. Work Environment & Physical Demands Fast‑paced wellness floor or office setting. Visual acuity required for reading screens and documents. High levels of alertness and concentration. Repetitive stooping/bending and occasional lifting up to 20 lbs. Ability to sit for extended periods. Ability to stand for at least 1 hour. Requires hearing, speaking and typing proficiency.
