Histology/Mohs Technician

The Histology/Mohs Technician prepares slides of human tissue for microscopic examination by embedding, cutting tissues, mounting tissues on slides, and staining them with routine and special stains; provides support to Mohs surgeon and Dermatopathologist. This includes accurately preparing and processing histologic specimens for microscopic evaluation and review by the Mohs surgeon/ Dermatopathologist. Maintains appropriate quality controls, and ensures the Lab is operating in accordance with all standards set forth by OSHA, CLIA and other regulatory agencies. Responsibilities Processes, embeds, cuts and stains quality frozen/paraffin tissue specimens. Performs and documents tests in compliance with quality control procedures and established parameters and standards. Maintains appropriate quality controls, and ensures the department is operating in accordance with all standards set forth by OSHA, CLIA and other regulatory agencies. Maintains histology equipment in good working order and troubleshoots equipment problems. Works with the Mohs surgeon/Dermatopathologist to resolve quality control, patient, or procedural problems. Orders supplies related to the defined area. Cross trains appropriate staff on job duties. Requirements Associate’s degree in laboratory science, medical laboratory technology, or major in Histology. 3 years experience as a Histotechnician working in a lab where histotechniques are being used as required. Current HT or HTL (ASCP) certification. HT/HTL board eligible. Solid working knowledge of IHC theory and troubleshooting, and basic IHC and routine histology and IHC quality control documentation. Experienced in routine histotechniques. Ability to perform grossing of clinical biopsy samples, processing, embedding, microtomy, H&E staining, and coverslippping of the same. #J-18808-Ljbffr
