ABOUT THE ROLE

SAS Global Corporation is seeking an experienced Quality Control Inspector to inspect fabricated steel products and confirm they meet applicable drawings, specifications, work instructions, and quality standards.

This position performs in-process and final inspections, identifies potential defects, documents findings, and works closely with manufacturing leadership to resolve quality concerns before products are welded or shipped. The ideal candidate has a strong fabrication or welding background and is comfortable working in an active manufacturing environment.

RESPONSIBILITIES

• Perform in-process and final inspections of products manufactured internally.
• Inspect materials and components received from vendors and suppliers.
• Review fabricated products for dimensional accuracy, joint condition, weld penetration, bead profile, and visual defects.
• Examine welds for cracks, cold lap, spatter, porosity, improper weld size, undercut, pits, and other flaws.
• Confirm products meet blueprints, fabrication drawings, work instructions, work orders, and layout specifications.
• Identify and document nonconforming or defective products.
• Evaluate products placed on hold and determine whether they meet acceptance requirements.
• Work directly with manufacturing leadership and production employees to address defects before final inspection or shipment.
• Complete required inspection forms and photograph inspected products.
• Monitor the company’s equipment calibration program.
• Maintain and develop Procedure Qualification Records and Welding Procedure Specifications.
• Help keep welder qualifications current and properly documented.
• Support production schedules while maintaining safety and quality standards.
• Perform other related duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS

• Five or more years of combined inspection, manufacturing, welding, or fabrication experience preferred.
• Ability to read and interpret blueprints and fabrication drawings.
• Strong knowledge of welding processes and common weld defects.
• Understanding of AWS D1.1 preferred.
• Certified Welding Inspector certification preferred but not required.
• Ability to perform basic shop math, algebra, and geometry.
• Ability to accurately use tape measures, micrometers, Vernier and dial calipers, protractors, and combination squares.
• Knowledge of ISO 9001:2015 or ASME standards preferred.
• Basic proficiency with Microsoft Excel, Word, and Outlook preferred.
• Strong attention to detail and documentation skills.
• Ability to communicate effectively with manufacturing employees and leadership.

WORK ENVIRONMENT AND PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

• Work is performed primarily in a manufacturing and fabrication shop.
• Regular exposure to dust, dirt, and loud or frequent noise.
• Must be able to remain on your feet for most of the workday.
• Must be able to lift approximately 50 pounds.
• Must follow all required safety procedures and wear appropriate personal protective equipment.
