Lead Software Engineer - AI & Automation

Salary: $61,000 - 101,000 per year Requirements:

• We require formal training or certification in software engineering concepts, along with 5+ years of applied experience.
• We expect hands-on experience delivering system design, application development, testing, and operational stability.
• We need advanced proficiency in one or more programming languages such as Python, JavaScript/TypeScript, Go, or SQL.
• We want demonstrated experience leading the effective use of approved AI-assisted software development tools, with the ability to define expectations for validating outputs for correctness, performance, and security.
• We look for strong understanding of responsible AI use in engineering workflows, including data sensitivity, secure handling of inputs and outputs, and resiliency and security expectations.
• We require strong Python skills and experience building services and automation frameworks, plus working knowledge of JavaScript for tooling, UI, or integrations.
• We need strong SQL capability and experience designing data models and working with relational databases.
• We expect hands-on experience deploying and operating workloads on Kubernetes, including deployments, services, scaling, configuration, and troubleshooting.
• We value demonstrated technical leadership as a senior individual contributor, including leading designs, driving delivery, and influencing across teams.
• We require proficiency across the software development life cycle.
• We expect advanced understanding of agile practices such as CI/CD, application resiliency, and security.
• Preferred: SRE and/or DevOps experience, including production operations, incident response, and reliability engineering practices.
• Preferred: experience building automation for infrastructure and operations, including orchestration, remediation, self-service, and runbooks-as-code.
• Preferred: experience with agentic AI frameworks and model-to-tool integration patterns, including prompt/tool design, structured outputs, and evaluation or monitoring.
• Preferred: familiarity with MCP and secure tool servers/connectors, with a strong understanding of access controls and auditability in tool execution.
• Preferred: experience with event-driven architectures and workflow engines.
• Preferred: prior experience in regulated environments with strong risk and control expectations.

• We design, develop, and troubleshoot creative software solutions, approaching technical problems beyond routine methods.
• We build secure, high-quality production code and review as well as debug code written by others.
• We drive adoption of enterprise-authorized AI-assisted engineering practices to improve code quality, delivery speed, and operational outcomes.
• We apply Software Development Life Cycle tools, including approved AI-assisted development and automation capabilities, to increase the value of automation.
• We identify opportunities to remove or automate recurring issues to improve application and system stability.
• We lead evaluation sessions with external vendors, startups, and internal teams to assess architectural design, technical credibility, and fit within our systems and information architecture.
• We own the full software lifecycle for multiple automation and AI initiatives, from design through implementation, testing, deployment, and production support.
• We develop services and workflows that integrate with infrastructure platforms and operational tooling such as APIs, events, job runners, and control planes.
• We engineer agentic AI solutions that safely automate tasks using tool use, workflow execution, validation, guardrails, and fallback mechanisms.
• We define and implement observability, including metrics, logs, traces, SLOs, alerting, and incident playbooks.
• We act as technical advisors to the team through architecture reviews, design decisions, and tradeoff discussions.
