About the Position

Job Title: Registered Nurse Profession: Nursing Specialty: Med-Surg/Telemetry Duration: 13 weeks Shift: Night Hours per Shift: 12 Experience: Minimum of 2 years of nursing experience with at least 1 year of direct Med-Surg experience. Traveler experience is required; must have at least 2 successful contracts before applying. License: Current nursing license is required. Certifications: BCLS, NIH, NIHSS, ACLS preferred but not required. Must-Have: Must have Med-Surg experience and IV start skills. Must be able to interpret and manage dysrhythmias. Description: RTO (Request Time Off) after booking is not allowed. Any call-offs or additional RTO on the unit could possibly lead to cancellation and denial of rehire. Float requirement: must be open to floating to other Med-Surg/Telemetry areas, which may include COVID care units. Travelers are required to work every other weekend. If RTO includes weekends, time will be added to the end of the contract to make up for those dates. If a traveler calls out for a scheduled weekend shift, they must make up the missed shifts based on the unit's needs. Primary patient population includes stroke patients, potential neurosurgery patients, and other neurological diagnoses. The unit operates a 4-bed epilepsy monitoring unit but training typically does not affect travelers unless trained. Daily census averages around 42 patients. Patient ratios are 1:6. Unit systems include electronic medication management and charting systems. Blood product administration, central line care, craniotomy care, and management of trauma cases are common. The unit cares for patients with diagnoses such as cerebrovascular accidents, seizures, subdural hematomas, and brain tumors. The position requires frequent interaction with interdisciplinary teams including physical therapy and respiratory services. Candidates must be willing to float and complete all necessary compliance protocols prior to starting.
