Mooresville Graded School District – Selma Burke Middle School, Mooresville, North Carolina Job Details Job ID: 5811491 Application Deadline: Posted until filled Posted: Jul 01, 2026 4:00 AM (UTC) Starting Date: Immediately Job Description ATHLETIC COACH Under general supervision and in compliance with state and local policies, the Head Coach is responsible for the overall operation, management and leadership of the athletic team. Reports to the school principal and athletic director. Specific Duties and Responsibilities Serve as a role model and lead students in the athletic program by example and in alignment with the core values of Mooresville Graded Schools. Train student athletes in proper procedures, skills, and techniques to help them safely compete in the sport program. Encourage and support the academic achievement of student athletes and promote sportsmanship. Possess thorough knowledge of all Athletic Policies approved by the Mooresville Graded Schools Board of Education and implement them throughout the sports program. Establish fundamental philosophy, skills, and techniques to be taught by staff; design conferences, clinics, and staff meetings to ensure staff awareness. Assist the Athletic Director in scheduling, providing transportation, and meeting requirements for tournaments and special sport events. Train and inform staff; promote professional growth through clinic attendance in accordance with local policy. Provide documentation to fulfill state and system requirements concerning physical examinations, parental consent, and eligibility. Safeguard and maintain equipment and sites; advise the Athletic Director and recommend policy, method, or procedural changes. Present at all practices and games; provide assistance, guidance, and safeguards for each participant. Comply with safety protocols established by state and local policy concerning student injuries. Effectively communicate procedures concerning due process when enforcing discipline; contact parents when a student is suspended, dropped from the roster, or becomes ineligible. Promote the sport within the school through recruiting athletes not in another program; promote the sport outside the school via news media, community recreation programs, or other feasible means. Maintain good public relations with news media, Booster Club, parents, officials, volunteers, and fans. Perform other duties as assigned by the school Principal in accordance with Mooresville Graded Board of Education policy and North Carolina Administrative Code and statutes. Minimum Training and Experience Must meet requirements established by the North Carolina High School Athletic Association, North Carolina Department of Public Instruction, the Mooresville Graded Board of Education, and school administration. Teacher license and employment as a teacher by the Mooresville Graded Board of Education is strongly preferred. Previous successful coaching experience in the assigned sport is preferred.
