Sociology Adjunct Faculty Salary: $1,000 per credit* Classification: Adjunct Faculty Supervisor: Dean for Social Science & Humanities *This recruitment is to establish an applicant pool for future vacancies. Olympic College is continuously recruiting Sociology Adjunct Faculty (part‑time) to primarily Intro to Sociology and other common‑course (SOC&) courses in person at its Bremerton Campus. Olympic College seeks applicants who are dedicated to student‑centered learning, closing achievement gaps, supporting diversity and social justice learning opportunities, and who employ data‑informed decision‑making in their instruction. Responsibilities Teach primarily Intro to Sociology course(s) in accordance with the college catalog, use agreed‑upon course outlines, develop course syllabi in alignment with SOC& 101 Student Learning Outcomes, and adhere to departmental guidelines. Teach day and evening classes in person; some may be located on the branch campuses of Poulsbo and Shelton. Teach in person and/or hybrid Intro courses. Provide quality teaching, including related preparation, grading, and record‑keeping for assigned classes. Provide class syllabi to students enrolled in classes by the first day and to the division of office by the 10th day of each quarter. Respond to students' queries in a timely fashion. Identify individual learning needs of students and make appropriate adjustments in learning environments and activities to meet those needs. Punctually communicate with students, faculty, staff, and administrators. Minimum Qualifications Master's degree (MA) in Sociology from an accredited college or university College teaching experience Must be available to teach during the day and in person Preferred Qualifications PhD in Sociology Desired Success Attributes Deliver instructional course content with excitement and enthusiasm Use a variety of methods and modes of instruction to ensure student success Demonstrate a commitment to teaching students with little or no background, as well as the experienced student desiring to further their career Utilize a variety of assessment activities to evaluate student learning and achievement Demonstrate success working with individuals and groups representing a wide range of diverse cultural and socio‑economic backgrounds, as well as military veterans Support diversity in higher education through the application of culturally responsive teaching pedagogies and the use of diverse resources/voices, as well as by contributing through actions Foster a climate of multi‑cultural understanding and appreciation Demonstrate an understanding of and commitment to the Olympic College mission, diversity, and a learning‑centered climate Demonstrate success in incorporating accessibility and special needs accommodations via course materials and classroom activities Communicate effectively both orally and in writing in the classroom and with other professionals to maintain effective and positive working relationships Collaborate successfully with faculty, staff, and students as part of an educational team Incorporate the use of technology in the delivery of course content and services, including the use of the College‑approved learning management system Uphold Olympic College's values and ethics necessary to maintain a positive climate Please note that we are unable to sponsor visas for this position.
