We are looking for an experienced Payroll Specialist to join a construction company in Emeryville, California. This on-site opportunity is a temporary contract with the potential to become a contract to permanent position. This role is designed for someone who can manage payroll operations with precision while supporting compliance, reporting, and employee records. The role is well suited for a payroll specialist who is comfortable working in a fast-paced environment and partnering across administrative and operational functions.
This position is based 100% onsite.
Responsibilities:
• Administer end-to-end payroll processing for a workforce that includes union employees, ensuring pay is completed accurately and on schedule.
• Coordinate onboarding documentation and establish payroll records for new hires in alignment with company procedures.
• Prepare certified payroll submissions and maintain supporting compliance documentation required for construction projects.
• Compile labor hour and job-cost related reports to support operational tracking and financial oversight.
• Manage wage garnishments, child support deductions, and other payroll adjustments with a high level of accuracy.
• Respond to employment verification requests and maintain organized payroll and personnel records.
• Support disability claims, workers’ compensation reporting, and benefits-related record reviews as needed.

• At least 5 years of payroll experience, including substantial hands-on work in construction payroll environments.
• Proven background processing union and certified payroll with a strong understanding of applicable compliance standards.
• Working knowledge of payroll laws, deductions, garnishments, and benefits-related administration.
• Experience with full-cycle payroll and multi-state payroll processing.
• Familiarity with payroll systems, specifically those used in the construction industry is required.
• Ability to manage confidential information carefully while maintaining accuracy and professionalism.
• Strong organizational, communication, and problem-solving skills in a deadline-driven setting.
