Position School Social Worker

Qualifications Bachelor's Degree in Social Work (BSW) from a Council on Social Work Education (CSWE)-accredited program.

• North Carolina Professional Educator's License in School Social Work (or eligibility to obtain licensure).
• Master's Degree in Social Work (MSW) preferred but not required.
• Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) credential is preferred but not required.
• Maintain continuing education and professional development as required by the NC Department of Public Instruction (NCDPI).
• Experience in school-based or youth-serving settings preferred.
• Knowledge of child development, trauma-informed care, crisis intervention, and community resources.

Salary Ten-month, full-time position

Reports To Director of Student Services

Essential Provide individual and group support and referral to students with social, emotional, and behavioral challenges.

• Conduct risk assessments (suicide, threat, etc.) and support crisis intervention.
• Help students develop positive social skills, coping strategies, and academic resilience.
• Participate in Multi-Tiered Systems of Support (MTSS) teams to provide input on interventions.
• Collaborate with teachers, administrators, counselors, nurses, and other staff to develop supportive strategies for students.
• Serve as a liaison between the school and families to promote student success.

• Conduct home visits when appropriate to support family engagement and student attendance.
• Monitor student attendance and support interventions to improve student engagement.
• Work with students, families, and legal authorities (if needed) on truancy prevention and resolution in accordance with NC Compulsory Attendance Law.
• Maintain accurate and confidential records in accordance with school policy and federal/state law. Prepare reports and documentation for Individualized Education Programs (IEPs), 504 Plans, and student services as needed.
• Participate in eligibility meetings and serve on IEP teams when appropriate.
• Adhere to the National Association of Social Workers (NASW) Code of Ethics and North Carolina DPI standards for school social work.
• Participate in ongoing professional learning and district training initiatives.
• Perform other duties as assigned by school or district leadership.
• Serve as assigned school's/schools' primary point of contact for students involved with the Department(s) of Social Services.
• Serve as primary point of contact for families experiencing unanticipated mobility through eviction, foreclosure, natural disaster, or other forms of housing displacement that compromise families' fixed, regular, and/or adequate housing.

Physical This work requires the occasional exertion of up to 10 pounds of force.

Work regularly requires speaking or hearing, using hands to finger, handle or feel and repetitive motions, frequently requires sitting and occasionally requires standing, walking, stooping, kneeling, crouching or crawling, reaching with hands and arms, pushing or pulling and lifting.

• Work has standard vision requirements.
• Vocal communication is required for expressing or exchanging ideas by means of the spoken word.
• Hearing is required to perceive information at normal spoken word levels.
• Work requires preparing and analyzing written or computer data, operating machines, operating motor vehicles or equipment and observing general surroundings and activities.
• Work occasionally requires exposure to outdoor weather conditions.
• Work is generally in a moderately noisy location (e.g. business office, light traffic).
