Grounds Maintenance OperationPrimary Purpose: Responsible for on-site day-to-day grounds maintenance operation ensuring that district grounds are safe, neat, and attractive.Qualifications: High school diploma or GED Clear and valid Texas driver's licenseSpecial Knowledge/Skills: Knowledge of gardening and landscape maintenance Ability to read and interpret landscape plans Ability to perform mathematical calculations Knowledge of landscaping equipment and its maintenance Knowledge of sprinkler systems and their maintenance General knowledge of fertilizing, aerating, mowing and tree trimming Effective organizational, communication, and interpersonal skillsExperience: 5 years' experience in gardening and landscape maintenanceMajor Responsibilities and Duties:Grounds Maintenance and LandscapingAssign priority to work orders and process them, including tracking of labor and material use.Interpret plans and sketches to carry out landscape designs.Establish and maintain care and watering schedules, including spraying, fertilizing, and pruning.Install, test, adjust, and repair sprinkler systems as needed.Inspect grounds and facilities and initiate needed repairs, including the building and repair of fences and gates.Estimate the cost and time required for projects and order materials.SafetyFollow the proper and safe use of tools and equipment.Follow established safety procedures and techniques to perform job duties including lifting and climbing.Operate tools, equipment, and machinery according to prescribed safety procedures.Correct unsafe conditions in work area and promptly report any conditions that are not immediately correctable to supervisor.Follow established procedures for locking, checking, and safeguarding equipment and facilities.Inventory and EquipmentPrepare, implement, and maintain preventive maintenance schedules for tools and equipment.Ensure that maintenance is completed and vehicles and equipment are in safe operating condition.Recommend replacement of existing equipment when necessary.Monitor the storage and use of all grounds equipment, tools, and supplies.Conduct regular inventory of physical equipment and supplies, order equipment and supplies when needed, and maintain accurate records.Mental Demands/Physical Demands/Environmental Factors:Tools/Equipment Used: Garden tools; small hand tools; power tools; heavy equipment including backhoe, tractor, grader; and power mower; light truck or vanPosture: Frequent standing, kneeling/squatting, bending/stooping, pushing/pulling, and twisting; work in tiring and uncomfortable positionsMotion: Frequent walking, grasping/squeezing, wrist flexion/extension, and overhead reaching; frequent drivingLifting: Heavy lifting and carrying (45 pounds and over) on a daily basisEnvironment: Work outside, on slippery or uneven walking surfaces; frequent exposure to extreme hot and cold temperatures, dust, noise, vibration; exposure to chemical (herbicides and fertilizer) and electrical hazards; work around machinery with moving parts; may work alone; regularly work irregular hours; occasional prolonged hours; frequent districtwide travelMental Demands: Maintain emotional control under stress
