Adult Mental Health Therapist

The Adult Mental Health Therapist conducts ongoing psychotherapy, counseling, and therapy services including, but not limited to, the treatment of mental health disorders as identified in the current Agency-utilized Diagnostic & Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders (DSM) to determine appropriateness for targeted case management services, outpatient crisis stabilization, crisis intervention appointments, and Health Planning Region (HPR) I detox screening. This position meets with a wide variety of individuals seeking psychiatric services at Northwestern Community Services Board (NWCSB) as part of the intake/therapy process. Case management and clinical interview skills are needed to obtain previous client records from outside agencies and collect relevant historical information from the individual. These services must be provided under the general supervision of the Adult Mental Health Program Manager. The position is assigned to a primary location but may also provide services in other NWCSB clinics and community settings, as appropriate. Major Duties and Responsibilities Conducts individual, group, and/or family therapy to the seriously mentally ill (SMI) and other populations. Performs assessments, intakes, and prepares documentation for client charts, as needed. Enters data into profiler computerized medical records. Prepares a treatment plan, including goals, with the client. Documents the progress of the client to their goals as outlined in the treatment plan. Presents cases to psychiatrists regarding client’s medicine. Works closely with Case Managers regarding client’s needs. Provides Crisis Intervention, as needed. Participates in various meetings to include departmental, divisional, or other meetings as required. Completes billing documentation in a timely and accurate manner. Conducts follow-up with clients. Provides support to Same Day Access (SDA), as needed. Perform other duties as assigned by the supervisor. Qualifications A combination of mental health work experience or relevant education, and training indicates the possession of knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to perform essential job duties required. Master’s degree earned from an accredited college or university in a relevant human services field required. Experience working with adults with behavioral health diagnoses and crisis intervention required. Experience working with adults in a clinical setting required. Licensed Mental Health Professional (LMHP) eligibility required, license preferred. Must possess a valid Driver’s License, good driving record, and the ability to provide your own transportation. Additional Requirements May be exposed to allergenic environments from client’s homes, including extreme heat, humidity, dust, smoke, pet contamination, cleaning supplies, etc. May be exposed to clients with infectious diseases. Must be able to drive for long periods of time to visit clients in and out of the catchment area as needed. Must be able to walk distances, climb and descend stairs, maneuver in and out of agency vehicles. Prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer. Must be able to lift/push/pull up to 25 pounds at times. SALARY: $61,789 – $78,611 POSITION: ID096 RETIREMENT: NWCSB participates in Virginia Retirement System.
