Business Loan Officer

The Business Loan Officer supports the organization's mission by providing exceptional, relationship-based lending services to entrepreneurs and small business owners. This position is responsible for promoting, marketing, underwriting, closing, and funding business loans while delivering a high-quality client experience. The Business Loan Officer works collaboratively across departments to ensure clients receive the capital and technical assistance needed to build profitable, sustainable businesses. The role requires strong financial analysis skills, excellent relationship-management abilities, and close attention to compliance and documentation standards. Reports To: Director of Lending Department: Lending FLSA Status: Full-Time, Exempt Location: Somerset, Ky. This position is responsible for promoting, marketing, underwriting, closing, and funding business loans while delivering a high-quality client experience. The Business Loan Officer works collaboratively across departments to ensure clients receive the capital and technical assistance needed to build profitable, sustainable businesses. The role requires strong financial analysis skills, excellent relationship-management abilities, and close attention to compliance and documentation standards. Core Duties Loan Origination & Underwriting Promote, market, and manage a pipeline of loan applicants from inquiry through closing, maintaining timely communication and high service standards. Assist customers with loan applications and financial statements. Perform credit analysis. Assess business viability. Structure loan requests in accordance with lending policies and risk guidelines; identify risk factors and recommend appropriate mitigants (technical assistance, collateral, guarantors, or loan structuring). Prepare written credit presentations and present loans to internal and/or external loan committees. Loan Closing, Funding & Documentation Complete underwriting, packaging, closing, and funding of loans. Ensure that all loan files adhere to program-specific guidelines. Client & Portfolio Management Provide technical assistance to existing and potential business owners. Maintain appropriate post-close communication with borrowers to support repayment, identify emerging needs, and connect clients with resources. Participate in portfolio reviews and delinquency management activities as needed. Administration & Compliance Maintain accurate and timely data entry in loan management systems. Document client meetings and business reviews Assist the Lending Department as needed and participate in projects supporting overall organizational goals and strategies. Participate in training activities and community events representing the organization. Complete other duties as assigned. Confidentiality This position requires access to confidential records and information, including client information. Strict confidentiality must be maintained at all times. Required Qualifications 2+ years of experience in credit management, financial services, or consumer/commercial lending preferred. Bachelor's degree in business, economics, finance, or a related field preferred, or equivalent experience relative to the duties described. Previous experience working with business start-ups and expanding businesses. Experience presenting loan recommendations to credit or loan committees. Experience with loan management software and the ability to learn proprietary industry software. Intermediate to advanced skills in Microsoft Office (Excel, Outlook) and database programs, with attention to data security. Preferred Skills Strong relationship-management and customer service skills. Ability to read, analyze, and interpret business information, professional journals, technical procedures, and governmental regulations. Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including the ability to draft effective reports and business correspondence. Strong attention to detail and ability to follow complex tasks through to completion. Sound judgment and problem-solving skills. Ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines in a fast-paced environment. Ability to work both independently and collaboratively within a team environment.
