Law Enforcement Officer

Under limited direction, this position performs law enforcement work such as routine patrol, preliminary investigations, crime control, and traffic regulation for the protection of life and property and prevention; and provides emergency services through the enforcement of laws and ordinances.

Expectations include:

• Responding to calls for service; handling citizen complaints, problem solving, making custodial arrests, and issuing summons.
• Knowledge of state law and local ordinance.
• Ability to drive and operate emergency vehicles.
• Ability to handle volatile persons, defend self and others, and testify.
• Investigating reports of crime, interviewing victims, suspects and others involved, collecting evidence, packaging cases for prosecution.
• Completing paperwork, reports and case management, and training.
• Patrolling city streets, neighborhoods, businesses, parks, and conducting traffic enforcement and issuing citations.
• Knowledge of city geography.
• Performing other duties as assigned.

Minimum qualifications include:

• An associate degree in Law Enforcement/Criminal Justice.
• One (1) year experience in Law Enforcement.
• Minnesota Police Officers license.
• Valid Drivers License with a driving record that is acceptable to the City's insurance carrier.
• Use of force training.
• Police field training.

Desired qualifications include:

• A bachelor's degree in Law Enforcement/Criminal Justice.
• Two (2) years law enforcement field experience.
• BCA certification.
