POSITION SUMMARY

The STEM Coordinator inspires high school students to explore science, technology, engineering, and math through engaging, hands-on learning experiences. This role combines direct student engagement with program coordination to create high-quality STEM opportunities across five high schools. Working alongside school staff, community partners, and the After School Safety and Enrichment for Teens (ASSETS) team, the STEM Coordinator supports Makers Lab activities, STEM clubs, competitions, and special events while helping students build confidence, creativity, problem-solving skills, and a passion for STEM. This position is site-based, five days per week, across ASSETS program locations. Reliable transportation and availability to work after-school hours are essential.

This is a part-time position (28 hours/week)

MAJOR DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

STEM Instruction and Facilitation (30-40%)

• Facilitate hands-on STEM activities and Makers Lab projects that engage students in creativity, problem-solving and collaboration

• Guide individuals and small groups through STEM projects by providing encouragement, coaching and mentorship

• Lead demonstrations and confidently present STEM activities/showcase to students and other stakeholders

• Foster a positive, inclusive, and engaging learning environment that encourages curiosity, exploration and belonging

• Monitor student participation and provide appropriate supervision to ensure a safe and productive Makers Lab environment

• Demonstrate and reinforce the safe use of Makers Lab tools, equipment, and technology

• Provide instructional coverage and support for STEM clubs and enrichment programs (e.g., Robotics Club, Saturday FAST) as needed

• Build positive relationships with students and encourage teamwork, perseverance, and a growth mindset

Program Coordination: (60-70%)

• Coordinate STEM programming and enrichment opportunities across the five ASSETS sites

• Oversee the daily operations of the Makers Lab, ensuring materials, equipment, and learning spaces are organized, accessible, and effectively utilized

• Identify STEM events and competition opportunities, and support coordination including student/staff preparation and participation

• Project manage the logistics of STEM activities, including deadlines, supplies and instructor support needed for each event and site

• Promote consistency and quality across all STEM programs by recruiting students, supporting staff, monitoring implementation, and sharing best practices

• Build and maintain partnerships with schools, community organizations, and industry partners to expand STEM learning opportunities

• Maintain accurate program records, including student participation, inventory, and required data for reporting and grant compliance

• Support general program operations through administrative tasks, communication, and collaboration with the ASSETS team and school sites

• Perform other duties as assigned

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE

Required Qualifications

• 3+ years of experience in education and/or program coordination

• Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple projects and sites simultaneously

• Ability to build positive relationships with students, teachers, school staff, and community partners

• Excellent verbal and written communication skills

• Availability to work after school hours onsite five days per week across program locations, with some weekends and evenings as needed

• Valid driver's license and access to reliable transportation; regional travel required

• Proficiency with Microsoft Office and Google Suite

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience facilitating/participated in Robotics, MESA, FAST, Maker's Lab, or similar hands-on STEM programs

• Background working in an extended day setting

• Experience working in or with nonprofit organizations

• Bilingual (Spanish or Vietnamese preferred)

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

Occasional physical activity may be required for related events such as lifting, carrying, and transporting materials, supplies, or equipment, and setting up displays.

POSITION TYPE

TRAVEL

Regular travel between ASSETS program sites is required. SVEF will reimburse employees for mileage that is incurred while driving their own vehicle on SVEF business outside their normal commute in accordance with applicable federal and state laws and regulations. The normal commute is traveling between an employee’s home and SVEF’s offices.

• Salary commensurate with experience. Hourly Range: $30-$32 per hour
